Somalis for Sustainability CIC, founded in 2023, is a sustainability and climate-education organisation that designs and delivers programmes aimed at increasing awareness, knowledge, and engagement around sustainability and climate-related issues. The company’s activities focus on educating communities on environmental challenges and solutions, both locally within the UK and in a global context, particularly relating to the Horn of Africa. During the financial year, Somalis for Sustainability CIC delivered a total of seven public events across the UK and online. These included in-person workshops, panel discussions, webinars, and community forums. The events provided accessible learning opportunities for community members, students, and professionals interested in sustainability, climate resilience, clean energy, and climate-related career pathways. The company’s activities benefited the community by increasing climate literacy, supporting skills development, encouraging dialogue between professionals and community members, and creating inclusive spaces for learning and collaboration. Through these programmes, participants were able to gain practical knowledge, share experiences, and build networks that support sustainable practices and climate resilience.
The company’s stakeholders include local communities who benefit from its activities, students and professionals working in or interested in the field of sustainability, and partner organisations that support or collaborate in delivering its work. Stakeholders were consulted through feedback forms administered after each event, as well as informal discussions facilitated by directors and volunteers. Feedback received was reviewed and used to inform the planning, content, and delivery of future events and programmes. Actions taken in response to consultation include adapting event topics, formats, and activities to better meet the needs and interests of participants and stakeholders.
