Quiet Connections CIC works to create calm, inclusive spaces where quieter people can feel seen, valued, and supported to connect with others in ways that feel safe and manageable. We focus on people who identify as shy, introverted, highly sensitive, or who experience social anxiety, many of whom are at risk of loneliness and social isolation. During the financial year ending 30 April 2025, our core activity centred on the delivery of regular, in-person Meet Ups across Cornwall. These gatherings provide welcoming, low-pressure environments where people can build meaningful connections at their own pace. Meet Ups are intentionally designed to reduce common barriers to participation in social and community life, offering consistency, clarity, and an emphasis on kindness, choice, and inclusion. Participants consistently describe feeling understood, valued, and more connected to others through attending. Alongside weekly Meet Ups, we delivered a range of Pop-Up Meet Ups and creative workshops across Cornwall. These included gentle group activities, cultural visits, nature-based gatherings, and creative skill-sharing sessions. These experiences introduced participants to new places and skills while offering opportunities for confidence-building and shared enjoyment within a supportive group. Several workshops were led by community members themselves, enabling people to contribute their strengths and take supported steps into leadership and participation. Throughout the year, we continued to grow and strengthen our volunteer team. Volunteers played a vital role in welcoming participants, supporting delivery, and helping maintain calm, inclusive spaces. We invested in improving volunteer training, guidance, and ongoing support, ensuring volunteers felt confident, prepared, and cared for in their roles. This strengthened the quality, safety, and sustainability of our activities while supporting a gradual move towards more community-led delivery. We also increased the reach of Quiet Connections by supporting Meet Ups in additional locations, enabling more people across Cornwall to access local, community-based support. Alongside delivery, we strengthened partnerships with venues, creative organisations, and referral partners, helping to raise awareness and improve access for people who may otherwise feel excluded from social opportunities. Across all our work, the emphasis remained on recognising and celebrating quietness and sensitivity as valuable strengths. The activities delivered during the year contributed to reduced isolation, increased confidence, and a stronger sense of belonging for participants, while also creating meaningful opportunities for contribution, creativity, and shared purpose within the community. supported to connect with others in ways that feel safe and manageable.
