COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

SAPPHIRE ARTS & CRAFTS CIC

Company Number: 15668490 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 April 2025

Company activities and impact

The company runs creative community projects with women and their families from diverse backgrounds in East London. Projects have been funded by the local council and The National Lottery, and during this financial year have incorporated a combination of walking and art related projects whereby beneficiaries have received free services with the objective being to improve mental health, wellbeing and to build connections by reducing social isolation. - We have tackled the existing inequalities within the participation of art and physical activities within the local community including culturally diverse communities, lower socio-economic groups, people with long term health conditions (14% of our beneficiaries) , global majority participants (72%) , neuro diverse (7%) and people with physical and/or mental disabilities (51%). Our participants are from a wide range of backgrounds, ages, socio-economic backgrounds and religions. - Participants became more active making a contribution toward their daily 10,000 steps. For mental and mind stimulation, they also participated in art-based activities led by the company director and qualified art educator. 68 participants have directly benefitted in this first financial year. A further 145+ participants benefited (with the impact reportedly benefitting the wider family members of those involved) -Improved physical and mental health, eliminating barriers that prevent them to integrate into their local communities including improved social networks and building positive relationships. 100% of participants gave feedback giving specific examples of how the company activities had benefitted them in one or both of these ways.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are local residents/ participants of active community group(s) and their families. The local council (Newham Council), who funded the first completed project, 10,000 Steps to Art Project, and The National Lottery funders whose project began at the end of this financial year (the overall impact is yet to be monitored). Local cafes and community spaces have also been affected positively, where community links have been growing during this financial year. All participants of the 10,000 Steps to Art Project submitted testimonials giving feedback and leading to a better understand how to further improve our services going forward. We also received a monitoring in-person visit from Newham Council (the funder) to measure the progress of the project where the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The Walkie Talkie Health & Friendship group activities were shaped by the group members during a series of group consultations. The directors have continued to improve services and offerings, and future projects are set to involve more beneficiaries, have greater impact and to form community collaborations to enhance the overall experience to participants.
