Part 1 Description of Activities and Community Benefit B3 Bumps, Birth & Belonging CIC delivers culturally-informed perinatal and postnatal support across Thurrock, Basildon, and Clacton. Our purpose is to ensure the perinatal period is safe, satisfying, joyful and equitable, with a particular focus on Black and mixed-heritage women and families. During the reporting period our principal programme, Roots of Life, operated continuously in Thurrock. We delivered 56 peer support groups (50 in-person, 6 online), 8 wellbeing walks, and a Health and Wellbeing Information Day attended by 45 participants. Across the year, 57 new mothers engaged with our services, 73 returning mothers continued their involvement, and 128 mothers were connected through our WhatsApp community. Peer support workers carried out over 350 individual check-ins. In December 2025, our community Christmas celebration was attended by 96 mothers, fathers and children. Alongside our core peer support offer, we delivered specialist sessions covering sleep support, maternal empowerment, and creative wellbeing. 12 women accessed free professional counselling funded by B3, removing a financial barrier to mental health support. Our data indicates measurable improvements in anxiety and depression outcomes following sustained engagement with our programme. Through the PHAB Project delivered in partnership with Parents First and Live Music Now we reached 24 parents in Clacton and Basildon. Families co-created personalised lullabies with professional musicians to support parent-infant bonding and emotional wellbeing. This project concluded at the end of the reporting period. Father and partner engagement continued to be a programme priority. 100% of fathers who attended our sessions said they would attend again. Commissioned Work During this reporting period, B3 secured a commission from Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB) to lead a community engagement project on the birth experiences of Black and mixed-heritage families at Basildon Hospital. The commission was confirmed within this reporting period; formal commencement and payment fall in the period ahead. The planned output is a Community Voices Report centring the lived experiences of the families we engage, to be submitted to the ICB. Community Benefit Our activities have delivered the following community benefits across the reporting period: Reduced social isolation among new and expectant mothers, particularly those with limited existing support networks Improved maternal mental health, supported through peer connection, specialist sessions, and access to counselling Increased parental confidence and self-advocacy within health and social care settings Stronger parent-infant bonding, evidenced through programme outcomes and family feedback Greater engagement with statutory services, with B3 acting as a trusted bridge to health visitors, midwives, and family hubs
