Company activities and impact

The company was incorporated on 24 April 2024. The first 6 months were spent refurbishing the accommodation, Raccoon Studios, and establishing various business practices. Time was also spent generating interest, seeking tenants for the studios and establishing an exciting programme of activities to serve its community. The first of these events began in November 2024, when we began to establish a regular programme, which has been growing since. Learning Disability Groups We have been running some regular and some one off craft sessions for adults with learning disabilities these have included puppet making and clay tile creations; Exhibitions We have put on 4 exhibitions on various themes for example, The Changing Face of Sheffield and Chalking for Change which was raising awareness of the difficulties women and girls face due to men's inappropriate behaviour in our city, we have also provided space for other groups like Sheffield Illustrators to put on their own exhibitions Fairs/markets/showcases We have hosted 4 arts & makers fairs showcasing the work of our artists and other local artists and crafts people. Music Events We have had a variety of music events including featuring local bands and DJs. We have worked hard to ensure that we have a diverse range of performers in all respects. That male and female performers are equally featured along with people of marginalised genders, that we have an ethnically diverse range of performers and music styles. Our volunteers and customers also reflect this diversity. We have also had a number of open mic nights. Comedy, circus and cabaret We have had a regular comedy night featuring up and coming performers along with a regular cabaret scratch night. We also had a circus event which featured a wide range of circus performances including aerial work. These events give performers who are building an act and/or are early in their career to develop their work and to gain exposure. Crafts We have a weekly craft drop in session where people can buy one of our Stay and Make Packs, these include jewellery making, card making, crochet, furry toy creations and use your imagine eclectic packs. We provide these at just £2 or £3 to help make getting involved with the arts accessible. Volunteers are on hand to help with these crafting activities along with a selection of books. We also provide jewellery making tools for people to use while in our space. Fashion and Sewing We have run a number of sewing sessions, these have focused on recycle and reuse ethos. We currently have a project on which involves being allocated 3 unloved items of donated clothing and a prompt to remake the old clothes into something new and fabulous! These items will be showcased in our sustainable fashion show at the end of the month which will feature models of all sizes and shapes including people with disabilities promoting body positivity and sustainable fashion choices.. Environmental Friendly We work with another local social enterprise Action on Plastic who provide reusable cups for events. We store their cups and work with their volunteers to promote their work and to facilitate the collection and distribution of the cups for these events. We also only use these cups for our own events and activities, choosing environmentally friendly and sustainable options wherever we can including only having vegetarian and vegan foods at our events and requiring any food providers to use non-plastic containers and cutlery. Mental Health Support We have had an organisation Kalidio Arts running music, drama, art and writing groups to support people with mental health issues. We work with a Hearing Voices Group who use our space for meetings and events which aim to raise awareness and understanding for people who hear voices as part of their mental health condition. We also support people with mental health problems to volunteer with us. Accessibility We have a high level of people with disabilities participating in our activities, both learning and physical disabilities. We also have a number of people with disabilities running activities as well as working as volunteers at events. Having an extra large accessible toilet fitted with a range of support bars and a raised toilet means that people who may struggle with the accessible toilets provided in other venues, know that they can relax in ours and not worry about needing to go. We offer a sliding scale of prices for our events to ensure that our activities are accessible to all regardless of their financial situation. We work hard to ensure that the activities on offer appeal to a range of people from different backgrounds. People Seeking Sanctuary or from Migrant Backgrounds We have been hosting music and craft events that are particularly inclusive for these groups. We have also hosted a number of meetings and banner making sessions for groups trying to combat racism. We offer a number of free tickets to our events and free drinks for people who have come seeking sanctuary and may have no recourse to public funds.

Consultation with stakeholders

The operation in the first year allowed for close collaboration with stakeholders. Many of the events were organised by third parties, to their own design. That is the very nature of Arts in the Right Place. We were also successful in supporting 28 volunteers to perform a variety of roles, from technical and facilities management to front-of house roles.

Directors' remuneration

The aggregate amount of the emoluments paid to or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £12,000. It is a lower level of remuneration than the value of the work, however, any higher payment would risk the viability of the project in these early years.

Transfer of assets

No transfer of assets other than for full consideration
