We have supported in excess of 50 clients on a one-to-one basis with mental health related illnesses. We currently have a varied set of clients with a third of the client base being veterans which suffer with P.T.S.D. These clients find it difficult to re-integrate back into civilian life with the remainder of these client who are supported tend to struggle with day-to-day pressures. The further third of the group compromise are young people aged between 11 and 16 who are struggling with anxiety related issues including exams and bullying. The drug and alcohol service provided at the STF has seen multiple people in need of support due to a range of addiction issues. We continue to help people to overcome alcohol, cocaine and prescription drug abuse. We provide free one-to-one counselling services which has produced remarkable results. We continue to provide a twelve-step recovery wellbeing group to our clients close at hand to our CA (Cocaine Anonymous) meeting, both groups well attended. Most health conditions are still on the rise, now being common for GP’s nationwide to prescribe exercise as a treatment for these ‘health anxiety’ conditions. Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide and Major Depression Disorders are associated with an increased likelihood of school absence, work absence and chronic physical disease. These clients suffering with severe depression, maintain the use of STF facilities including a physical health regime, paid for accommodation and qualified professional advisors. Within days of starting the professional programme, clients started to gain confidence, become visibly healthier and significantly happier in mind.
Consultation has been carried out with other support organisations in the borough, seeking to understand where collaboration could afford better results to the overall requirements of the town. Discussions remain ongoing.
