Collectarium is a publishing platform that curates and designs activities anddocuments how these engage audiences into new ways of seeing. We operate at the intersection of design, education, and research. We engage audiences through participatory and collective design activities (workshops, curation of exhibitions). We document and share the impact to reveal new ideologies, methodologies, and opportunities for participatory and collective design. The communities we engage with are created by the people that participate in the design activities that we create. We work with schools, universities, cultural institutions and the public. We engage people of all ages and abilities to learn, think and make together to benefit the community. To create new knowledge and promote what design can do to create societal change. The activities allow for the development of a 'community of practice'. Working together to improve how we understand the world and each other. Recent examples showing how Collectarium has benefited communities: 01. Collectarium Lockdown Masks engaged over 200participants globally in making masks which helped people's wellbeing during isolation and was shared using social media. (May 2020) 02. Collectarium How Do You Feel? Drop in wellbeing centre At Phoenix Art Space engaged local school children in Brighton Area about making art as a wellbeing activity (June 2023) 03. Collectarium Lockdown Space, at Now Play This Festival, Somerset House, London which engaged audiences into participatory activities exploring isolation and play during lockdown. (April 2024)
The company’s stakeholders include participants in its activities, schools, universities, cultural institutions, and the wider public. Stakeholder consultation takes place through participatory design activities such as workshops, exhibitions, and events, where feedback is gathered through direct engagement, discussions, and online platforms. The company uses this feedback to improve and develop its activities, ensuring they remain inclusive, relevant, and beneficial to the community. For example, feedback from earlier projects informed the development of wellbeing-focused and participatory programmes. Through this approach, the company continues to support collaborative learning and community engagement.
