CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025
Stepping into my second year as Co Chair of the AGI, alongside Peter ter Haar, has been both a privilege and a source of great energy. I am pleased to present the accounts for 2025 and to reflect on another remarkable year for our geospatial community.
Looking back on 2025, I am delighted to highlight the continued progress and growing impact of the Association for Geographic Information (AGI). This year has demonstrated once again how vital our networks, members, and collaborative spirit are to the success of the UK geospatial sector.
Throughout 2025, AGI has strengthened its role as a convenor of professionals and organisations across the geographic information landscape. Our flagship events, including GeoCom hosted by AGI Scotland, AGI GeoCymru and AGI Northern Ireland Annual Conference, continued to attract diverse audiences and thought provoking contributions. We also delivered a vibrant programme of Early Careers Network activities and focused webinars.
This year marked the successful establishment of several important new AGI Networks, including;
-AGI Greater Manchester Network, created to support regional collaboration and innovation around one of the UK's most dynamic cities. The network has already brought together local authorities, academia, industry, and community groups to explore how geospatial insight can shape digital transformation, resilience, and public service delivery.
-AGI Housing Network, with aims to foster continued connections and conversations, helping to connect the dots and articulate the opportunities and challenges of geo within the housing sector. Providing a chance to engage with a diverse group of stakeholders and contribute to shaping the future of geospatial technology in housing.
The success of these new networks demonstrates the growing appetite for connection within our community and the ability of AGI volunteers to create meaningful, impactful spaces for collaboration.
Our members remain at the heart of everything we do. Their dedication across working groups, committees, and networks continues to propel our initiatives forward. The generosity, expertise, and enthusiasm of our volunteers have again helped cultivate a thriving community that spans the public sector, private industry, academia, and not for profits. I remain continually impressed by the commitment our members show to supporting each other and to strengthening the geospatial profession.
As we look ahead, AGI remains focused on advancing geographic information, promoting innovation, and deepening support for our members. A major milestone for 2025 has been the publication of the AGI Foresight Report, capturing key trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping the geospatial sector in the decade ahead. We are excited to be hosting a major event centred around this work, bringing together experts from across the community to explore the insights and discuss their implications. This initiative has been supported by a planned investment from our reserve funds, ensuring that AGI continues to lead and influence the national geospatial conversation.
Looking forward, we remain committed to advancing geographic information, fostering innovation, supporting our members, and Connecting a Thriving UK Geospatial Community. A comprehensive review of 2025 is available on the AGI website.
