Year Ending: 31 July 2025

Company activities and impact

Disability Today CIC is an online education and resource platform providing access to news, products, services and organisations within the disabled community. The company also delivers structured educational programmes aimed at equipping disabled individuals with the skills, confidence and experience required to access employment opportunities and participate fully in society. The company was incorporated in July 2017 and launched its directory at Naidex at the NEC in April 2018. It continues to operate a volunteer programme through its office in Chobham, providing disabled individuals with opportunities to develop journalism, media and administrative skills within a supportive and accessible environment. The company works in partnership with local Job Centres and community support organisations to provide work placements that may not otherwise be available to disabled individuals. These placements support the development of workplace skills, confidence and independence, thereby enhancing employability and overall wellbeing. During the financial year ended 2025, the company’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways: The company has continued to facilitate a wide range of inclusive activities and reporting opportunities for its volunteers and students. These include participation in recreational and cultural experiences such as water skiing, flying, gliding, in-door skydiving, theatre and concert visits, theme parks and visits to London attractions. These activities are designed to build confidence, resilience and independence, while demonstrating accessibility within everyday and aspirational experiences. Content generated from these activities is captured and produced by participants, contributing to the company’s online platform and promoting positive representation and inclusion within the disabled community. The company continues to provide practical, office-based training in digital skills, administration and media production. Volunteers are supported to progress into roles involving editing, producing and directing media content, contributing to in-creased confidence, skills development and a sense of achievement. The Academy for Disabled Journalists, established in 2020, remains a key component of the company’s activities. Delivered in collaboration with the National Council for the Training of Journalists, the Academy provides accredited qualifications including the Certificate in Foundation Journalism and Diploma courses, accessible to disabled students across the United Kingdom. The Academy continues to provide inclusive learning through the provision of live captioning, accessible equipment and flexible study periods of up to two to three years, recognising the impact of complex health conditions on learners. During the year, students of the Academy have achieved notable success. Several students have successfully completed their qualifications, with some progressing into employment with organisations including BBC, ITV and Newsquest. In addition, students have received industry recognition through awards, and have been accepted for work placements across a range of media organisations. These outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of the Academy in supporting individuals to overcome barriers and successfully enter the workplace. The company has further expanded its training provision through collaboration with NOVOS, delivering training in search engine optimisation and digital public relations. The company is also exploring additional partnerships with Kaplan and Google to extend its educational offering into areas such as bookkeeping and coding. The company continues to provide online support through regular virtual “Catch Up” sessions, enabling volunteers and students to remain connected and supported. The adoption of remote learning and working practices has further enhanced accessibility, allowing disabled individuals to engage in education and employment opportunities from home. Overall, the company continues to deliver significant community benefit by promoting inclusion, improving confidence and wellbeing, and creating sustainable pathways into employment for disabled individuals. As an organisation led by disabled people for disabled people, it remains committed to reducing barriers and enabling equal participation in society.

Consultation with stakeholders

Disability Today CIC engages with a wide range of stakeholders in order to inform its activities and ensure that it continues to deliver meaningful benefit to the disabled community. The company’s principal stakeholders include disabled individuals (volunteers and students), partner organisations within the disability sector, educational and training partners, media organisations, government representatives, and community support services. The founder, Grant Logan, who is himself disabled following a road accident, continues to shape the organisation’s direction with a focus on supporting disabled people locally and nationally. This lived experience underpins the organisation’s commitment to providing accessible opportunities, resources and training through both its media platform and educational programmes. The company actively consults with local organisations supporting disabled individuals to promote its volunteer and training programmes. These consultations have resulted in increased engagement and the successful recruitment of volunteers. Feedback from these organisations indicates that participation in the company’s programmes has contributed positively to individuals’ confidence, skills development and readiness for the workplace. Ongoing engagement is maintained with a broad range of stakeholders across the public, private and third sectors. These include media organisations such as BBC, ITV, Sky News, Channel 4 and CNN, as well as charities and sector bodies including Shaw Trust, Scope, Leonard Cheshire, Media Trust, Creative Diversity Network, Disabled Journalists Forum and John Schofield Trust. The company also engages with policymakers and government representatives, including members of Parliament and the House of Lords such as Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and Dr Al Pinkerton, as well as the Government’s Disability Unit and the Minister for Disabled People. Through its involvement in the Disabled Entrepreneurs Network (formerly part of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Inclusive Entrepreneurs and now aligned with disability and inclusion initiatives), the company contributes to discussions aimed at influencing policy and improving inclusion for disabled entrepreneurs. Feedback from these stakeholders has informed the continued development of the company’s programmes, including the expansion of training opportunities, increased accessibility measures, and the strengthening of pathways into employment through the Academy for Disabled Journalists. The company has responded by enhancing its educational provision, building partnerships with media organisations, and increasing opportunities for work placements and employment progression. The effectiveness of this engagement is demonstrated through positive outcomes for participants, including increased volunteer participation, successful transitions into employment, and recognition through industry awards. The company itself has also received awards recognising its contribution to diversity and inclusion. The founder’s ongoing recognition, including being named on the UK’s Power 100 list of most influential disabled people for multiple consecutive years and holding a Fellowship at the Royal Society of Arts, further reflects the organisation’s impact and the value of its stakeholder engagement. Overall, the company continues to place stakeholder consultation at the centre of its activities, ensuring that feedback is actively incorporated into its operations and that it remains responsive to the needs of the disabled community.
