Power in Poetry CIC: Activities and Community Impact During the financial year, Power in Poetry CIC delivered a range of creative and educational initiatives centred on poetry and spoken word. These activities were designed to engage members of the community, with a particular focus on young people from Black and ethnic minority backgrounds across the United Kingdom. The organisation provided structured poetry workshops, spoken word sessions, and performance platforms that enabled participants to develop their creative expression, communication skills, and self-confidence. Through mentoring and training, young people were supported to explore poetry as both an artistic outlet and a constructive pathway for personal development. The impact of these activities has been significant. By offering a safe and inclusive environment, the CIC has contributed to reducing social isolation, promoting positive mental health, and providing alternatives to anti-social behaviour and crime. Participants have been encouraged to channel their experiences and emotions into creative expression, which has helped foster resilience, self-awareness, and a sense of belonging. In addition, the organisation has strengthened community cohesion by bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds through shared cultural and artistic experiences. The programme has also increased awareness of the value of the arts in supporting wellbeing and social inclusion. Overall, Power in Poetry CIC has made a meaningful contribution to the community by empowering young people, supporting mental health, and promoting positive social outcomes through poetry and spoken word engagement.
During the financial year, Power in Poetry CIC actively engaged with a range of stakeholders to ensure that its activities remained relevant, inclusive, and responsive to community needs. Key stakeholders included programme participants (particularly young people), parents and guardians, local community groups, schools, youth organisations, and volunteers. Consultation was carried out through informal discussions during and after workshops, structured feedback sessions, questionnaires, and direct engagement with partner organisations. Participants were encouraged to share their experiences, suggest improvements, and identify areas of interest for future programmes. This feedback provided valuable insight into the effectiveness of the CIC’s activities, particularly in relation to mental health support, youth engagement, and crime prevention. The organisation also liaised with community leaders and youth workers to better understand local challenges affecting Black and ethnic minority communities. These discussions helped to shape programme delivery, ensuring that workshops and spoken word sessions addressed relevant social issues and provided meaningful support. Feedback received during the year highlighted the positive impact of the CIC’s work in building confidence, improving emotional wellbeing, and providing a constructive outlet for self-expression. Suggestions from stakeholders have been incorporated into future planning, including expanding outreach, increasing the number of workshops, and developing more performance opportunities for young people. Overall, stakeholder consultation has played an important role in guiding the CIC’s activities and strengthening its impact within the community.
