During the financial year June 2024 to May 2025, Leeds Umbrella CIC successfully secured funding of £15,000 under the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). This funding enabled the organisation to sustain and further develop its work in supporting the integration, employability, and wellbeing of Hongkongers and other migrant communities in the UK. Building on the success of the previous year’s BN(O) Welcoming Programme, the organisation strengthened its programme delivery with a clear focus on community cohesion, social integration, and inclusive engagement. Activities Delivered During the Funding Period Community Events and Cultural Activities The organisation delivered a diverse programme of large-scale and community-based events designed to promote inclusion, cultural exchange, and active participation. - Successfully delivered the Leeds Hongkonger Lunar New Year Market 2025, the largest event organised by the Company to date, featuring over 70 stalls and attracting substantial public attendance - Organised traditional cultural celebrations, including the Mid-Autumn Festival, alongside other seasonal gatherings to strengthen community identity and continuity - Ensured events were accessible and inclusive, attracting a diverse audience including local residents and individuals from a wide range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds These activities collectively provided structured and informal opportunities for: - Social integration and sustained community participation - Cultural exchange and mutual understanding - Informal English language practice in real-life and social settings - Development of soft skills, including leadership, teamwork, and communication - Increased community visibility and engagement Community Cohesion and Volunteering The Company continued to promote community cohesion through structured engagement activities and volunteering initiatives. - Organised intercultural gatherings facilitating interaction between Hongkongers and the wider community - Delivered a broad range of smaller-scale cultural and social activities, including board game sessions, leadership training workshops, sports activities, and hiking events, encouraging regular engagement and peer interaction - Sustained partnerships with local community organisations, including environmental and neighbourhood groups - Delivered volunteering activities (including litter picking and community-based initiatives), supporting civic participation and local engagement These activities contributed to improved community integration and strengthened relationships between different community groups. Partnerships and Collaboration The organisation maintained and further developed collaborative relationships with: - National Hongkonger organisations - Local community groups and grassroots organisations across Leeds These partnerships enhanced delivery capacity, extended outreach, and enabled more effective use of shared resources, thereby increasing the overall impact of the Company’s activities. Impact and Outcomes Through the above activities, Leeds Umbrella CIC has: - Strengthened social integration and reduced isolation among participants - Promoted intercultural understanding and community cohesion - Increased sustained engagement through both large-scale events and regular community activities - Supported the development of interpersonal and community leadership skills Participant feedback across programmes remained consistently positive, indicating high levels of satisfaction and meaningful engagement. Conclusion The Directors consider the year to have been a period of continued growth and consolidation, with the successful transition to UKSPF funding enabling the organisation to expand its reach and enhance the quality and consistency of its delivery. Leeds Umbrella CIC remains committed to supporting migrant communities and fostering an inclusive and cohesive society through practical, community-led initiatives.
