COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

BULGARIA INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL STUDENTS ALLIANCE CIC

Company Number: 15654391 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 April 2026

Company activities and impact

BIMSA’s activities have benefited the community during the financial year by continuing to provide accessible educational, professional development, and peer-support opportunities for medical students and graduates of Bulgarian medical universities, particularly those seeking to progress their careers in the United Kingdom. The company has delivered educational content both in person and online, helping to make support available to a wider community regardless of location. This has included teaching sessions, careers guidance, and practical preparation for key transition points in medical training and employment. A significant area of benefit has been the provision of interview preparation courses for graduates of Bulgarian medical universities applying to work in the UK. These sessions support international medical graduates by helping them understand the expectations of UK medical recruitment, improve their interview technique, and prepare more confidently for clinical and professional scenarios. This contributes to better informed and better prepared doctors entering the UK workforce. The company’s work has also helped create a supportive professional network for students and graduates who may otherwise have limited access to tailored guidance. By sharing knowledge, experience, and practical advice, BIMSA has supported members of the community in navigating the challenges of transitioning from medical education in Bulgaria to clinical practice and postgraduate training in the UK. Overall, BIMSA has provided community benefit by improving access to education, supporting career progression, promoting professional development, and reducing barriers for internationally trained doctors and medical graduates seeking to work in the NHS.

Consultation with stakeholders

BIMSA has consulted with stakeholders throughout the financial year through ongoing engagement with its community of medical students, graduates of Bulgarian medical universities, UK based doctors, educators, and volunteers involved in delivering teaching and support. Consultation has taken place informally through direct communication with students and graduates attending BIMSA events, online teaching sessions, and interview preparation courses. Feedback from participants has helped identify the areas where support is most needed, including guidance on applying for UK clinical posts, preparing for interviews, understanding NHS expectations, and navigating the transition from medical school in Bulgaria to working in the UK. BIMSA has also engaged with graduates and doctors who have successfully progressed into UK medical practice. Their input has been used to shape the content of educational sessions and ensure that the advice provided is practical, relevant, and grounded in current experience. This has helped ensure that teaching and careers support reflect the real challenges faced by graduates entering the UK healthcare system. In addition, BIMSA has maintained communication with volunteers, speakers, and organisers involved in delivering educational content. Their feedback has informed the planning, format, and delivery of activities, including whether sessions should be delivered online, in person, or as a combination of both to maximise accessibility. Overall, stakeholder consultation has helped BIMSA ensure that its activities remain responsive to the needs of its community, particularly medical students and graduates seeking support with career progression, interview preparation, and integration into UK medical practice.
