Company activities and impact

The Happiness Hub Derby CIC is a community-focused organisation dedicated to improving mental health and wellbeing through accessible, inclusive support. We deliver free and low-cost wellbeing programmes across Derby, with a particular focus on supporting adults from disadvantaged or socially isolated backgrounds. Our core activity is the delivery of structured six-week programmes, including our Mindfulness for Beginners course. These sessions incorporate mindfulness practices, guided meditation, peer support, and creative activities such as mindful arts and crafts, all designed to reduce stress, improve emotional resilience, and build confidence. Over the past year, we have successfully delivered programmes in Alvaston and expanded our reach into Mackworth. In total, we have supported around 100 individuals, many of whom were experiencing loneliness, anxiety, or barriers to accessing traditional mental health services. In addition to direct delivery, we actively collaborate with other community groups, charities, and local organisations to strengthen community connections and reduce isolation. We attend and contribute to other CIC-led groups and initiatives, helping to build a supportive local network and increase awareness of wellbeing services. We also support students on placement from the University of Derby and other higher education institutions, providing opportunities to gain practical experience within a community wellbeing setting. Participants access our services through a range of referral pathways, including self-referral and referrals from local services such as GPs, NHS services, social prescribers, the police, local councils, and other mental health and community organisations. This helps ensure our support reaches those who may benefit most. The impact of our work is reflected in improved participant wellbeing, increased social connection, and greater engagement in community life. Many participants report feeling more confident, less isolated, and better equipped with practical tools to manage their mental health. Our aim is to continue expanding our reach, ensuring more people across Derbyshire can access safe, supportive spaces to improve their wellbeing and feel part of a connected community.

Consultation with stakeholders

The stakeholders of The Happiness Hub Derby CIC include participants attending our wellbeing programmes, members of the local community, partner community groups and organisations, referral partners, and students on placement. We consult with our stakeholders on an ongoing, informal basis through group discussions during sessions, verbal and written feedback, direct communication with participants, placement students, and partner organisations, as well as informal community engagement through our coffee and cake community meet-ups. We create a safe and open environment where individuals feel comfortable sharing their experiences, needs, and suggestions. Feedback from participants has directly influenced the development of our services. For example, we have adapted session times and locations to improve accessibility, expanded our delivery to include additional areas such as Mackworth, and incorporated more creative and peer-led activities in response to participant interest. We also gather insight from referral partners, including, NHS services, social prescribers, the police, local councils, and other mental health and community organisations, to better understand local needs and ensure our support reaches those who may benefit most. In addition, we engage with other community groups and CICs to reduce duplication of services and ensure our work complements existing provision. As a result of this ongoing consultation, we continue to evolve our programmes to better meet the needs of the community, reduce social isolation, and improve overall wellbeing.
