1. Heritage Dance Project (funded by Welsh Government, administered by Diverse Cymru until December 2024). Led and facilitated by ILA-WALES CIC Directors Ruth Davies (Health & Wellbeing) & Patricia EH Jones (Heritage & Communication). 18 dancers rehearsed 8 different Ibero-Latin American heritage dances and performed in four different events, including our Christmas Party in 2024 (attended by 92 people); a performance in Killay’s Festival of Communities in May 2025 (attended by 85 people), and Dance Days in June 2025, organised by the Taliesin in the Waterfront Museum; This Project increased employability as well as the self-confidence of the Dance Group members, together with their mental and physical health. Once the WG grant finished in December 2024, ILA-WALES CIC continued supporting the Heritage Dance Project until July 2025. 2. Designing for Wellbeing Project (funded by The National Lottery from August 2025 to December 2026). During August 2025, we had a series of five (5) Fashion Design & Sewing Workshops in the Swansea Community Workshops on High Street, Swansea. During these workshops, 20 members learnt to design and make new costumes for the Heritage Dance Group to wear during performances. This Project increased creativity, taught and developed new skills and, thus, enhanced employability too. It also provided employment to two ILAWALES CIC members and volunteering opportunities to another two members. ILA-WALES CIC has lent out three sewing machines to members so that they can work from home, thus supporting self-employment opportunities. During September 2025, we had a series of three (3) Leatherwork Workshops, where members learnt the skills to make wallets and small bags. They learnt how to handle the tools required, guided by two ILA-WALES CIC members in their own studio workshop based in Swansea town centre. These workshops also increased creativity and enhanced employability, as some members are now cooperating with the leads and helping them make leather items for sale locally and online. 3. Dancing for Wellbeing Project (funded by The National Lottery from August 2025 to December 2026). From January to September 2025, the group rehearsed every Friday at the Grand Multicultural Hub, the Grand Theatre, Swansea. This led to our participation in the Festival of Communities in July 2025 held at Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, organised by Ethnic Minority Women in Welsh Health (EMWWH) with the attendance of over 500 people. In September 2025, our IberoLatinXpression Salsa & Samba Fundraising Party, attended by 112 members. We contracted a live Latin Band and our Heritage Dance Group performed at the Volcano Theatre six (6) new dances from Brazil, Colombia, EL Salvador, Honduras, Mexico and Spain. The party raised some unrestricted funds to cover our core expenditure. Our Heritage Dance group continues to grow in confidence and self-esteem, as people who share our culture learn to appreciate it more and more. 4. Community Garden Project (funded by Swansea Council Conservation Team from January to September 2025). During this time, a group of 15 members have been looking after the community garden, led by ILA-WALES CIC’s Director of Sustainability, Mr Peter K Jones, and Mr Nick A Jones, ILA-WALES CIC Director of Membership, acting as interpreter-facilitator. The members planted vegetables, fruits and herbs in the raised beds and harvested them to share amongst them. They have also taken some seeds and tools home to plant in their gardens. 5. Research Project. ILA-WALES members also cooperated in research on Parkinson’s Disease with Egality.Health.
1. Heritage Dance Project via individual interviews in December 2024, carried out by a researcher commissioned by Welsh Government to review the impact of the Culture Grants administered by Diverse Cymru. The interviews revealed a high level of enthusiasm for the Project and a great deal of satisfaction with how the Project had been facilitated. The dancers were happy that they could lead a dance during rehearsals, if they so wished. They all agreed that dancing is good for their physical and mental health whilst having the opportunity to show and share our culture with the local Welsh community by performing in various local events. The participants wanted to continue dancing during 2025, and ILA-WALES CIC sponsored the group until we were given a new grant by the National Lottery, starting in August 2025. 2. Designing & Dancing for Wellbeing Project has benefitted 41 members directly and they all completed a satisfaction survey at the end of the August and September Workshops, showing great satisfaction with their new skills learnt and with the end product that they had created. The National Lottery Community Fund, which is sponsoring this Project, requests sharing monthly accounts and bank statements, which show how the funds are being spent. Our Director of Finance/Treasurer, in consultation with the Director of Health & Wellbeing and the Director of Heritage & Communication, produces the monthly accounts. The Facilitators keep a file with all the receipts and a record of the attendance and transport refunds paid to dancers, as well as any money spent on refreshments. Whenever the dance group performs, we receive thank you emails from the organisers showing satisfaction with our participation and performance. 3. Community Garden Project. The Swansea Council Conservation Team sent two members to plant and assess what the group had done. They were satisfied with the group’s progress. Sketty Park Community Centre’s Committee have also facilitated access to the Centre and are very happy with how the garden is looking now. One positive side-effect has been less litter around the Centre, as it used to be a real problem before work on the surrounding garden started. No auditing of any accounts is required for this Project, as ILA-WALES CIC hasn’t received any direct funds into its account. The Conservation team purchased all tools, seeds and bulbs required and gave them to the group. 4. Research Project. Egality.Health carried out a survey. 28 members participated in the research, not only from our community but also from other ethnic minority organisations with which we co-produce activities & projects.
