The CIC has run several events that brought diverse communities together and this enabled us to break down barriers for migrants, refugees and asylum seekers with their local and wider communities. - People from these community groups were able to buy food ingredients and have their transport covered by our funding to enable them to cook traditional foods to bring to appropriate venues to share within the Cornish community. Cornish culture, food and tradition was also shared with these groups. - We were able to get volunteer entertainers, artists, singers, choirs, dancers, bands etc to attend also to as well as entertainment for children and young people. - Separate to our funded events, we were able to run a supportive and fun day for Ukrainian children and teenagers who have been isolated in remote communities to meet up to play fun games and socialise with each other to make connections and friendships. We also were able to support their mums to socialise together too. Everything provided for this day was completely free/donated - prizes, games, food, drinks, cakes and sweets, raffle prizes (everyone won something!), volunteer time and transport and the local venue. - We linked with local resettlement teams to offer their support and advice to refugees including from Afghan, Ukrainian and Syrian communities in Cornwall. These advice sessions were followed up with sharing of food and entertainment. - We were part of a large festival in Cornwall bringing together Ukrainian people from all over the UK for a fundraising day to help those injured in the war. - We joined a local yearly literary festival as an add on to one of our community days and were able to get two teenage Ukrainians to be part of the festival and get the chance to tell their stories and be part of a Q&A with a writer of books on child refugees having a voice. - Throughout our events, we raised funds for charities and built our network of supporters for our main yearly festival, where we bring together all diverse communities in Cornwall for a day of celebration of food, entertainment and cultures from around the world as well as Cornwall. - Our events also help to educate the public and encourage integration and acceptance of others. Uniting communities at a time when its most needed.
We hold regular volunteer and stakeholder's meetings. We offer feedback through social media. Stake holders fed back on requests for additional cultures and entertainment to be added as we originally only had food at our events. Directors are linked with other charitable organisations and this enables us to have working partnerships within various sectors. We get feedback from all who attend our community days and this enables us to make improvements going forward. We used venues in different locations to reach more isolated communities due to Cornwall rurality. We have been able to be more inclusive with accessing better venues that are also more accessible for people with disabilities.
