Fluxus Cornwall CIC continued to deliver community-focused creative, technical and educational activities in Redruth and the surrounding area during 2024-2025. Fluxus Cornwall CIC ran hands-on workshops and community activities focused on invention, making, creativity and STEAM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). Activities included electronics, coding, mechanisms, automata, arcade-style games, interactive installations and practical making skills. A key activity during the year was the continuation and development of the weekly Invention Club, held in Redruth. These sessions brought together young people and adults to collaborate on creative and technical projects in an informal and supportive environment. Fluxus Cornwall CIC also organised and contributed to public exhibitions, demonstrations and community events showcasing community-made inventions, automata and interactive creations. This included the Cornish Contraptions exhibition, which featured work from makers aged approximately 15 to 86 and attracted around 1,000 visitors over four days. The CIC continued developing its longer-term vision of creating a permanent public-facing workshop and exhibition space in Redruth where people of different generations can share skills, experiment creatively and engage with STEAM subjects through hands-on activities. The organisation remained volunteer-led throughout the period, with directors and volunteers contributing significant unpaid time towards workshops, planning, exhibition setup, administration, fundraising and community engagement. Fluxus Cornwall CIC’s activities benefited a wide range of people within the local community, particularly in and around Redruth, Cornwall. Beneficiaries included, Children and young people interested in creative and technical activities. Adults seeking informal learning opportunities and practical skills. Older participants can share knowledge and experience with younger generations. Families attending workshops and public events. Volunteers developing confidence, skills and community connections. Members of the public are engaging with exhibitions and interactive installations. The organisation particularly aimed to support accessible and inclusive participation by offering low-cost, donation-based or free activities wherever possible. The activities also contributed to wider community benefit by helping increase engagement with Redruth town centre, celebrating local creativity and engineering heritage, and encouraging interest in STEAM-related skills and careers.
Fluxus Cornwall CIC consults with participants, volunteers, community partners, and members of the public through ongoing informal discussions, feedback gathered during workshops and events, social media engagement, and direct conversations with local organisations and supporters. The organisation regularly adapts its activities in response to participant interests, accessibility needs and attendee feedback. Public exhibitions and community events have also provided opportunities to gather feedback and ideas from visitors and local residents. The organisation works collaboratively with local community organisations, makers, artists, educators and supporters in shaping future activities and identifying opportunities for partnership working. Feedback gathered during the year has reinforced demand for more regular workshops, improved access to creative technical activities, and the development of a permanent, accessible workshop and exhibition space in Redruth.
