Ariadne's Thread Group is a CIC providing free textile workshops and participatory projects to vulnerable communities. Their goal is to support adults and children who have limited access to culture, heritage, arts and crafts with particular focus on refugees and those with learning and communication difficulties. Their SEN activities are aligned with the national curriculum and promote the development of fine motor skills, as well as communication and social skills. Their integration programme brings people together and offers them a chance to share knowledge, skills, and common interests. Cross-cultural collaborations foster inclusion, cohesion, mental health and wellbeing. In their first year, Ariadne's Thread Group, offered educational and therapeutic activities such as MINDFUL TEXTILES sessions to local schools and MINDFUL MONDAYS meetings with the Ukrainian community. Their ongoing cross stitch tapestry project, Flowers We Give To Ukraine, has connected over 300 participants of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. The group curated two textile exhibitions, The People Behind The Flowers (Dec 2024) and Flowers Ill (May 2025) which showcased the progress of each tapestry and the stories behind them. The SOW TO SEW community flax growing programme was launched, which included natural fibre and traditional crafts workshops like yarn spinning and flax processing. Ariadne's Thread participated in the annual Kingston Museum's Saxon Fayre and organised their own heritage event in the Museum's garden, Community Heritage Harvest Day in September 2024. Nearly 100 people attended and enjoyed free outdoor demonstrations, textile workshops and creative activities. In August 2024, they introduced a year-long cross-cultural embroidery project, Kanthas of Friendship, based on the ancient tradition of textile recycling from Bengal. Two In Progress community events were organised at the local Museums and the project was part of the annual Refugee Week
