Fam Films CIC is a film hub that showcases the brilliance of Black cinema while creating opportunities for filmmakers to thrive and for wider audiences to connect with authentic stories. Through carefully curated events and screenings, the organisation provides a platform for thought-provoking films, documentaries, and television programmes that challenge, inspire, and entertain. Fam Films CIC not only showcases established talent but also cultivates a vibrant creative community where diverse voices can exchange ideas and build meaningful connections. During the financial year 2024–2025, the company’s activities benefited the community in the following ways: - Providing safe and authentic community spaces: Fam Films CIC organised 3 local screenings with post Q&As of films exploring the history and experiences of the Caribbean community in Bristol. These events were all fully sold out at the venues capacity of 100 people. This enabled local residents to come together to watch, discuss, and reflect on stories that are culturally relevant and meaningful to their communities in a welcoming and inclusive environment. - Supporting young people and skills development: Fam Films CIC supported five young local people with an interest in filmmaking to create a film exploring the relationship between local communities, nature, and the environment. Participants gained practical experience in filmmaking and storytelling. Fam Films CIC also arranged a visit to the BBC Natural History Unit digital team, where participants received professional advice on interview filming techniques and career pathways within the creative industries. - Celebrating diverse environmental leadership: Fam Films CIC acted as lead producers for an exhibition at We The Curious celebrating the achievements of Nature Rising, a platform showcasing Bristol-based Global Majority leaders working within the environmental sector. The exhibition ran for six months, supported local 7 artists, and highlighted the many ways Black, Asian, and ethnically diverse communities actively contribute to protecting and engaging with nature.
Fam Films CIC has worked collaboratively with a range of local community groups and organisations, including We The Curious and Watershed, to deliver accessible and community-focused events and activities. The company regularly seeks feedback from stakeholders, including audience members attending screenings and events. Attendees are invited to complete short feedback questionnaires and are encouraged to suggest ideas for future activities and events. Feedback received during the year has been overwhelmingly positive, with many participants expressing a desire for more regular events and screenings within the local area.
