During the financial year, The Scrap Lab CIC provided hands-on creative craft workshops for children and young people aged 4–19 in the North Manchester area. Our activities benefited the community in the following ways: Inclusivity and SEN Support: We delivered accessible sessions specifically designed to support a wide range of abilities and special educational needs (SEN). By providing SEN-experienced facilitators, we ensured that children who often face barriers to arts and crafts were able to participate fully in a supportive environment. Eco-Education and Sustainability: Our workshops focused on creative reuse, teaching young people the importance of sustainability by using recycled and upcycled materials. This helped raise environmental awareness and reduced waste within the local community. Support for Local Businesses: We sourced our workshop materials from local independent businesses, helping to circulate the local economy and strengthen community ties. Community Enrichment: We operated as a mobile service, bringing enrichment activities directly to schools, libraries, community groups, and youth organisations. This improved access to high-quality creative education for residents who may not have been able to travel to a central hub. Social Value: By turning "scrap into something special," we fostered confidence and creativity in young people, providing them with tangible skills and a sense of achievement. The company has now ceased trading and is in the process of voluntary dissolution. All activities were carried out in accordance with our community interest goals, and any remaining assets have been handled according to the CIC Asset Lock requirements. No directors received a salary or director’s fees for their services as directors of the company. However, one director was engaged as an independent contractor to deliver the specialist craft workshops. These payments were made at a standard commercial rate for the delivery of educational services and were essential to the fulfilment of the company’s community interest objects.
