Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services.

All fixed assets are initially recorded at cost. COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

BAROD COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Company Number: 08382883 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 March 2026

Company activities and impact

Barod CIC continues to be run by a team of people with a learning disability and or autism. We work in different teams: Planet Easy Read produces accessible information in easy read and everyday English and Welsh for mainly public sector and voluntary sector clients. Where the opportunity arises we work in partnership with other local learning disability and autism groups. Planet Easy read is developing training online to support organisations to better produce in house easy read. We have recognised the need to move away from existing stock library photos as they do not have the range or depth especially of Welsh focussed images. We are starting a project, with a grant from the National Lottery Awards for All fund, to look at coproducing our own images in photograph and drawn form to better meet this need. Barod Research is a partner in a 3 year research project, humanising healthcare run by Sheffield University. They also review and support academic papers for journals and speak at conferences. Humanising healthcare came to an end this year with dissemination work ongoing. We are part of a research project following on from this, further exploring the human in healthcare. Barod Media is a media production company of people with autism and or a learning disability producing short films for clients mainly from the voluntary sector. They also train small groups to help them find and tell their own stories on film. AssistMyLife has worked with learning disability groups to produce a digital toolkit to support people to be more confident and independent. We have moved from an increasingly restrictive app store based tool to a web based app using new software from Unity. We continue to build the directory of accessible businesses. We found this year tech issues were throttling the speed and usability of the service we wanted to offer. The team have pivoted to a more robust directory with additional life style guides based on a character called Mylo. Allowing for additional merchandising based on the character.

Consultation with stakeholders

Barod CIC is governed by a board of Directors elected from our membership. Our board all identify as having a learning disability or neurodivergence. This lived experience helps shape Barod CIC into a positive space for our team and clients. We hold members meetings in the year and an AGM. This is an opportunity for each team to share their work and to talk about the future plans for Barod.

Directors' remuneration

Two of the directors received a salary totalling £14,710 for the year. The other two directors did not receive any remuneration.

Transfer of assets

No transfer of assets other than for full consideration
