The New Media Writing Prize CIC was established to advance public education and engagement in new media writing, digital storytelling, and emerging literary forms. During the financial year, the company organised and delivered the New Media Writing Prize, an international awards programme recognising excellence and innovation in interactive and digital literature. The Prize supports writers, students, and creators working in emerging forms of storytelling, helping to increase public awareness and understanding of digital literacies and contemporary creative practice. In 2024-25, the prize attracted 209 international entries, and awarded £3000 in prizes. In addition to the Prize itself, the company facilitated community engagement activities including an unconference event in May 2025 focused on new media writing, interactive narrative, and digital publishing. This event brought together 40+ writers, academics, students, and practitioners to share knowledge, discuss emerging technologies and creative practices, and encourage collaboration across disciplines and international communities. The company’s activities particularly benefited writers and learners interested in innovative forms of storytelling that are often underrepresented in traditional literary spaces. Through free or low-cost community-focused activities, online engagement, and international outreach, the CIC promoted access to digital creative education and fostered a more inclusive and supportive community around new media writing and practice. This work directly supports the CIC’s stated objects of advancing education, promoting digital literacies, and encouraging participation in new media creative practice for the benefit of the wider community.
The company engaged informally with stakeholders including prize entrants, judges, sponsors, collaborators, and members of the wider new media writing community throughout the financial year. Consultation took place through direct email communication, online meetings, event discussions, social media engagement, and feedback received during and after the Prize and unconference activities. Feedback from stakeholders informed decisions relating to community accessibility, event structure, future activities, and the ongoing development of the Prize and associated events. In particular, the company continued to emphasise inclusive and international participation, support for emerging creators, and community-focused educational engagement in response to stakeholder feedback.
