In September 2024, we took over the lease for the artist studios we have been members of since 2020. This saved 15 artists from eviction and enabled us to continue to operate from these premises. Within the studios, there are several street artists and graffiti writers who hold studios with us. Providing affordable studio space while also fostering community within the building has been a great addition to the work we do in the city. In January 2025, we started posting daily vlogs that documented the process of being an artist, offering insight into the daily trials and tribulations artists face. These vlogs also served as a way to document the local street art and graffiti scene, bringing the work of local artists to a wider audience. In April 2025, we took on the lease to 50 Hill Street in the Garnethill area of Glasgow with the aim of opening a gallery. Working alongside Ciaran Globel and Conzo Throb we spent 35 days transforming an underused shop into a colourful art gallery. Grateful Gallery officially opened on the 5th of June 2025. Our first show featured over 50 artists and was a resounding success. Having this space will allow us to continue to support and promote street artists and graffiti writers in Glasgow by giving them a place to showcase their work as well as sell their own artwork and merchandise. Our second show was with legendary graffiti writer SmugOne titled ‘Dead Grateful’. We raised money for Calton Athletic Recovery Group in Glasgow's east end, with £1565 in total being donated.
While creating the daily vlogs, our social media following grew from 11k to 56k, increasing our reach and engagement with the local community. We had several videos go viral, with comments being overwhelmingly positive about the work taking place in the city. During this time, we took on the gallery and documented the process from start to finish. This gave the viewers a sense of connection and investment in the gallery. We launched a crowdfunder in May 20225 to help with the initial costs of setting up the gallery. We were overwhelmed by the support and raised over £12k in donations. Having a physical space allows us to have direct contact with our customers and also the street art and graffiti community. We host a new opening every month, enabling artists to meet and discuss their practices and future projects. The studio also has regular contact with the tenants to discuss any issues that arise there.
The total amount paid or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £21,523. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
