RAPHAEL’S ROOM CIC

Directors' report period ended 31 August 2025

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 August 2025

Principal activities of the company

Raphael’s Room was able to start providing our preventative services for care leavers this year following the receipt of a grant from the Big Issue in November 2024 to cover our planned activities for the ongoing fifteen months. It has meant that in 24/25 we have been able to provide dynamic spaces where creativity and community intersect. Connecting young people back to their body and emotions and allowing them create to a life beyond limitations. We were founded to help young people with care experience aged 18-25 to heal mind, body and soul via creativity, sound and frequency. This is based on my own healing journey as a care leaver who had been through abuse and neglect. Our mission is to become a platform of opportunity utilising creativity as a catalyst to heal and create change. We uniquely use sound and frequency to move stuck energy and emotions (stress/trauma etc) out of the body. A balanced energy system is important for your overall well-being, particularly if you are neurodiverse. We are the only project like this in the UK for care leavers. Our vision is to create the UK’s first healing hub for young people. Every young person should have access to the best resources & guidance. By empowering young people with free holistic wrap around support, they’re tapping in to their emotions and limitless potential for the first time, building confidence and experiencing the interconnectedness of life; all whilst feeling part of a loving community who understand their unique experiences. Our events this year have received positive feedback from our young people with 95% requesting that we put on events more regularly. We are currently working on increased funding and creating a self-sustaining ecosystem.

Additional information

Young people with care experience are the most vulnerable community in the UK Despite forming just 1% of the UK population, they will go on to form 23% of the adult prison population, and 40% of youth offenders under 21 have been in care. They are more likely to become homeless and they are four times more likely than their peers to suffer with a mental health condition; with “isolation and loneliness” cited as the biggest issue – most have no family or support network to fall back on. Over 66% of young people come into care due to abuse and neglect. The wider statistics surrounding care leavers and how their trauma effects them is heartbreaking: They are 4-5 times more likely to commit suicide, One-third will experience homelessness within 2 years of leaving care and 40% are NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) by age 19. We are the only preventative service like this in the UK for young people with care experience. Our aim is to Empower young people with the skills and knowledge to be self-supporting; whilst working on key issues they say matter: mental health, community and creativity.
