| Our charity's purposes as set out in the objects contained in the company's memorandum of association areto advance the education of the public, and in particular but not exclusively pupils in UK state schools, inLatin, Ancient Greek and Classical Civilisation, and to run the Iris Community Classics Centre; to expand, preserve and make accessible to the public, its collection of artefacts, which is housed at The RumbleMuseumThe Iris Project is an educational charity introducing the languages and culture of the ancient world to UKstate schools in order to enhance literacy, social awareness and analytical skills. It was founded in the beliefthat the opportunity to learn about Classical languages, literature, histories and art should be made availableto all, regardless of background, and that learning about these fascinating subjects can be a vital tool inpromoting learning across the school curriculum in UK state schools. We run a wide range of initiatives in state schools across the country, focusing especially on children insocially excluded inner city regions, and we also run projects which introduce Classics to adults in citycommunities. We founded and run the Iris Community Classics Centre at Cheney School in East Oxford, afirst-of-its-kind community learning venue for classical topics, which runs events, courses, projects, workshops, talks and exhibitions, all of which are provided free of charge to the local community and beyond, catering for all ages. |
