The company secured a licence from the broadcast regulator Ofcom in May 2022 to operate a small-scale digital radio transmitter covering Blackpool and the Fylde Coast. The transmitter started broadcasting on 1 st September 2022 and is located on the top of Blackpool Tower. The system can carry approximately 20 radio stations. As a not-for profit organisation we are able to offer low rates, technical expertise and support to community-oriented radio stations looking to transmit local events and information to keep communities informed and entertained over the local transmission area. Blackpool and the Fylde Coast now have 10 small scale radio stations sharing local information, events and good causes for the benefit of the region.
We have continued to work closely with the broadcasting regulator, Ofcom. Discussions continue with Blackpool Council Public Health Directorate about the advantages of using local radio for health messaging and local information that would benefit the community We are in discussion, and assisting with, a potential CDSP licence to innovate health and informational messaging alongside VCFSE organisations A notional share of our surplus will be allocated as a donation to a social enterprise or Charity in the local area that provides benefit to the community
