Community Interest Report: MKSON Basketball CIC 1. Overview of Community Benefit Throughout the financial year, MKSON Basketball CIC has served as a vital community hub in Milton Keynes. Our activities have provided a structured and supportive environment where residents can engage in physical activity, regardless of their background or previous experience. By prioritizing community interest over profit, we have ensured that the benefits of team sport remain accessible to the local population. 2. Promoting Health and Wellbeing The company’s primary activity has been the delivery of consistent basketball sessions that address the physical and mental health needs of the community. Physical Fitness: We have provided a regular outlet for exercise, helping to combat sedentary lifestyles and promote long-term cardiovascular health among participants. Mental Resilience: Beyond the physical benefits, our sessions offer a space for social interaction, helping to reduce feelings of isolation and providing a positive mental break from the stresses of daily life and education. 3. Fostering Social Inclusion and Safe Spaces MKSON Basketball has acted as a protective factor for young people in Milton Keynes by providing a safe, supervised environment during out-of-school hours. Barrier Reduction: By keeping participation costs manageable, we have ensured that basketball is not a "luxury" sport, allowing individuals from lower-income households to benefit from the same opportunities as their peers. Positive Aspirations: Our coaches serve as mentors, encouraging discipline, respect, and a work ethic that participants carry into their school and professional lives. 4. Strengthening Milton Keynes’ Community Cohesion As a club, we take pride in reflecting the diversity of Milton Keynes. Diverse Engagement: Basketball at MKSON acts as a common language, bringing together individuals from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds who might not otherwise interact. This fosters a sense of belonging and local pride. Volunteer Empowerment: We have encouraged local residents to take an active role in the club’s operations, providing them with a sense of agency and the opportunity to contribute positively to their own neighborhood. Summary of Impact The company’s activities have successfully bridged the gap between elite sport and community recreation. By maintaining a focus on inclusivity and character-building, MKSON Basketball CIC has contributed to a more active, connected, and resilient Milton Keynes community.
