During the financial year, Bolton Hongkonger Life Support CIC served as a vital support hub for the Hongkonger community. Our activities were strategically designed to facilitate successful resettlement, promote social cohesion, and alleviate the unique pressures faced by new arrivals. Community Benefit: Mental Health and Wellbeing: We provided mental health signposting and supporting, offering culturally specific guidance that helped reduce the strain on local statutory services. Social Inclusion and Local Integration: We organised regular community meetups and workshops to strengthen community bonds. Notably, we held two dedicated activities specifically designed to connect Hongkongers with local British tutors. Empowerment through Volunteering: We established a robust volunteer network, empowering individuals to use their skills in service of their peers, which boosted the confidence and employability of the volunteers themselves. Impact and Results: The company’s efforts have had reaching a total of 300+ participants throughout the financial year. These individuals reported feeling more connected and supported in their resettlement journey as a result of our interventions. By acting as a bridge between new arrivals and the wider Bolton community, we have helped foster a more inclusive, stable, and self-sufficient local society.
Our Stakeholders: The company’s stakeholders include Hongkonger residents in Bolton and Greater Manchester, our team of volunteers, local authorities, and local service providers. How Stakeholders Were Consulted: Throughout the financial year, we maintained a continuous feedback loop through several channels: Direct Feedback: Informal discussions held during community meetups and workshops. Structured Surveys: A short community survey distributed to identify specific gaps. Service Follow-ups: 1-on-1 meetup Partner Liaison: Emails and messages with local authorities and partner organisations. Action Taken in Response to Feedback: As a direct result of these consultations, we implemented the following changes to improve our community impact: Language Accessibility: In response to concerns regarding language barriers, we introduced Cantonese-speaking support volunteers for key services to ensure clearer communication and trust. Targeted Support: Based on survey results highlighting struggles with relocation stress, we increased our focus on 1-on-1 consultation support for individuals facing complex adaptation issues. Resource Development: To address digital exclusion, we produced and distributed translated physical and digital materials to help community members. Skill Bridging: Following feedback regarding social integration, we launched activities specifically connecting Hongkongers to facilitate better cultural understanding and language proficiency.
