    Other accounting policies

Operating leases: the CIC as lessee Rentals paid under operating leases are charged to profit or loss on a straight-line basis over the lease term. Government grants Grants are accounted under the accruals model as permitted by FRS 102. Grants relating to expenditure on tangible fixed assets are credited to profit or loss at the same rate as the depreciation on the assets to which the grant relates. The deferred element of grants is included in creditors as deferred income. Grants of a revenue nature are recognised in the Statement of income and retained earnings in the same period as the related expenditure. Debtors Short-term debtors are measured at transaction price, less any impairment. Loans receivable are measured initially at fair value, net of transaction costs, and are measured subsequently at amortised cost using the effective interest method, less any impairment. Cash and cash equivalents Cash is represented by cash in hand and deposits with financial institutions repayable without penalty on notice of not more than 24 hours. Cash equivalents are highly liquid investments that mature in no more than three months from the date of acquisition and that are readily convertible to known amounts of cash with insignificant risk of change in value. Creditors Short-term creditors are measured at the transaction price. Other financial liabilities, including bank loans, are measured initially at fair value, net of transaction costs, and are measured subsequently at amortised cost using the effective interest method.

Year Ending: 31 August 2025

Company activities and impact

During this reporting period ending August 2025, StartStrong Fitness CIC successfully delivered seven weekly parent and baby exercise classes across four key areas: Colchester: We continued to run our existing two parent and baby fitness classes with no additional classes added during this period. Ipswich: We ran two classes, providing consistent free support to parents in the area. Stowmarket: We successfully launched new classes in response to local demand, bringing our free, specialist support to parents in this community for the first time. Castle Point: We established and delivered two classes, expanding our reach to families in this area. Across all classes, we supported a significant number of parents throughout the reporting period. These sessions were delivered by qualified pre- and postnatal exercise specialists and were designed to support both physical recovery and mental wellbeing. All sessions were open to all fitness levels and allowed babies to attend alongside their parents, creating an inclusive and bonding environment. Our impact extended well beyond fitness, addressing a wide range of health and social challenges. We: Helped parents manage and recover from postnatal depression and anxiety, as well as pregnancy-related and postnatal conditions such as gestational diabetes, high BMI, preeclampsia, Diastasis Recti, weakened pelvic floor, and postural changes. Supported mental health by creating a safe, non-judgmental space where parents could connect, share experiences, and feel supported. Reduced isolation and improved community cohesion by fostering a supportive network of parents navigating similar life stages. Encouraged the active involvement of fathers and partners, promoting shared parenting and family bonding. All our classes were offered completely free of charge, made possible through grant funding and careful financial planning. By removing financial barriers, we ensured that families from all backgrounds could access the support they needed. In summary, StartStrong Fitness CIC made a meaningful and measurable difference to the lives of many parents and families over the past year. We delivered accessible, community-driven programmes that continue to grow in demand, clearly demonstrating the need for ongoing and expanded support across Essex and Suffolk.
