Business Activity: I-bogey CIC is an alternative programme that supports young people aged 5 to 25, particularly girls from lower-income backgrounds, by providing access to STEAM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths, opportunities alongside wellbeing, confidence-building, and digital safety support. The programme is designed to be practical, inclusive, creative and engaging, combining skills development with emotional and physical wellbeing. There is an opportunity for young people to become Peer Mentors to support the children whilst they learn. The Programme was set up in 2022 and ran over 2 years the outcomes were received positively with funding from National Lottery, Brighton and Hove City Council, University of Sussex and Sussex Innovation Centre where I-Bogey was a runner up in 2022 for their Social Impact Prize. In 2024 I-bogey Founder Erika Chivers was runner up as Digital Woman of the Year. Core Programme Areas 1. STEAM Workshops - Core Activity I-bogey delivers creative, hands-on workshops introducing young people to technology in an accessible and engaging way using a girl friendly curriculum. This includes: Digital media, animation and storytelling Intro to coding and emerging technologies including AI awareness Creative, project-based experiential learning inspired by Rudolf Steiner Delivered by PGCE experienced teachers and DBS checked leads. Paid Peer Mentoring opportunities for young people Sessions are adapted across age groups 5–10, 11–16, 17–25. 2. Digital Wellbeing & Online Safety Workshops support young people to safely navigate the online world and build resilience. Sessions cover: Online bullying and trolling How to block, report, and manage privacy settings Social media awareness and its impact on confidence Building safer and more positive online behaviours Who to contact and talk to 3. Physical Wellbeing - Yoga & Pilates Access I-bogey is aiming to introduces accessible wellbeing activities, recognising that yoga and Pilates are often cost-prohibitive. This includes: Yoga for relaxation and confidence Introductory Pilates, including reformer where possible Breathwork and stress-management techniques Sessions will be offered at low or no cost, particularly for those who would not otherwise have access. Featured Programmes Space Race STEAM & AI Series A themed workshop series using space exploration to engage young people in science, creativity, and technology. Includes: How Did Humans Reach the Moon Mission to Mars UFO: Aliens visit Brighton Was Apollo 13 a Success or Failure What ever Happened to Space Shuttles Why Humans Broke Sound Mission design and problem-solving challenges Creative digital projects; animation and model building Introduction to AI and its real-world applications Team-based activities such as Mission to Mars scenarios This programme is designed to spark curiosity and build confidence in engaging with future technologies. Silent Disco Movement Sessions - Yoga & Pilates An innovative wellbeing activity using wireless headphones to guide participants through yoga and Pilates sessions set to music. Benefits: Reduces self-consciousness and anxiety Creates a more immersive and enjoyable experience Encourages participation from those less confident in group settings Sessions include guided movement, breathwork, and optional free movement. Who We Support Young people aged 5–25 Primarily girls, young women and LGBTQ. Those with limited access to technology, creative opportunities, or wellbeing activities How It Will Be Delivered Small, supportive group sessions Delivered through schools, community spaces, and partner venues - Jubilee Library, Tech Take Back, Community Works - we are aiming to find our own space in Brighton. A mix of workshops, short programmes, and holiday activities. Eventually we want to provide an alternative provision for children who are excluded from the current state system and work with Brighton and Hove City Council. Age-specific groups to ensure appropriate delivery What We Aim to Achieve Build confidence and self-belief Improve digital and creative skills Help young people feel safer and more in control online Increase access to wellbeing activities Encourage new thinking around education, careers, and future opportunities Link with local employers as regards to work opportunities and further training In Summary I-bogey provides a well-rounded Award Winning programme that combines STEAM learning, digital safety, and physical wellbeing. It is designed to remove barriers, build confidence, and give young people access to opportunities they may not otherwise experience. Safeguarding The trustees of I-bogey recognise safeguarding as a core governance responsibility and are committed to protecting all beneficiaries, particularly children and young people aged 5–25. Trustees will ensure that appropriate safeguarding policies and procedures are in place, regularly reviewed, and aligned with UK best practice, including guidance from the Charity Commission for England and Wales and NSPCC. A trained Designated Safeguarding Lead will be appointed to manage concerns and act as the main point of contact for safeguarding matters. This will be myself or a PGCE teacher. Trustees will oversee safer recruitment practices, including DBS checks, references, and safeguarding training for all staff and volunteers. They will also ensure that safeguarding is embedded in all activities, including STEAM, AI, yoga, and movement-based programmes. Safeguarding will be monitored at governance level through regular review of risks, incidents, and policies. Trustees will ensure that any serious concerns are recorded, reported appropriately, and acted upon promptly. The board is committed to promoting a culture of safety, inclusion, and respect, where all participants feel secure and able to speak up. Planned Transition to CIO: I-bogey CIC is in the process of becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. This move will align our governance with our public benefit mission and enable access to a wider range of charitable funding and partnerships.
