Company activities and impact

The community interest company organises the Bermondsey Street Festival which is an annual community festival held on the 3rd Saturday of September each year. It is an opportunity for local businesses and talented artisans of food, craft and entertainment to showcase Bermondsey's creativity and entrepreneurship. Local residents attend the festival for free and are provided with a full programme of events for the day, including a live music stage, street entertainers, dog show and childrens' activities. Bermondsey Street is lined with arts and crafts stalls and entertainment and food and beverage vendors are set up in the adjacent parks. More than 130 local businesses and stall holders have the opportunity to showcase their products and services to attendees of the festival. Most businesses report significant economic benefit from their trading at the festival. Entertainers at the festival benefit from promotion of their acts. Many entertainers obtain other bookings as a result of their promotion at our festival. The festival is organised solely by volunteers, with the 2 directors being the primary organisers.

Consultation with stakeholders

Southwark Council is one of the major sponsors of the festival. The event plan is submitted to the Events operations team for review, and it is presented to the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) at a meeting around 3 months prior to the event. At the SAG meeting stakeholders advise any additional requirements which must be fulfilled prior to and during the event to make it a safe and compliant environment. A SAG debrief meeting is also held within 1 month after the event to note anything which should be changed or improved at the next year’s event. The Directors also formed a committee of 8 festival organisers which meets to review and agree festival plans and results.

Directors' remuneration

The 2 directors are the primary volunteer organisers of the event. At a committee meeting held in December 2025 it was agreed, in recognition of directors tireless effort and small profit achieved, the directors would each be paid £1,000.
