Hounslow Repair Cafe CIC is a community-based initiative which delivers a local repair and reuse service with volunteers and skilled repairers from the local community of Hounslow. In financial year 2024-25, we delivered 6 Repair Cafes in the Borough of Hounslow where we offered the local residents free repair of bikes, clothing, small electrical items. Venues were chosen to attract all parts of the community; faith/non-faith, all age groups, vulnerable, socially isolated, socio-economic disadvantaged and those affected by cost of living crisis. Venues: 1. St Leonard's Church, Heston Rd, Heston - hosted 2 Repair Cafes (Nov 24, Jan 25). 2. Royal British Legion Heston, New Heston Rd, Heston - hosted 2 Repair Cafes (Dec 24, March 25) 3. Brentford FC Community Sports Trust - 1 Repair Cafe in Jun 25. 4. Cranford Community College - 1 Repair Cafe in Nov 24. Active promotion and advice were given to residents to repair, save items from landfills and help residents save money. We help source spare parts both online, locally or through repairers at little cost or for free. Learning how to make their items safe to use, and to gain knowledge how to conserve and help lengthen life of an item. Help residents become more confident in accessing online digital repair tutorials. Make users aware of the wider repair networks and to encourage use of these for repair before replacement. With the addition of Bike repairs, once a bike is deemed roadworthy and safe by repairers, there is greater incentive to get healthy and help in reducing London pollution levels too.
At each workshop, we collate and evaluate key indicators such as postcode, type/details/outcome of repair, weight of repair, age, suggestions/feedback and made improvements to our operations. We measure how much is repaired and saved from landfills through resident surveys/data collection during the Repair Cafe. Our service is instrumental in getting the low waste message out there, educating and helping the residents (pop. 250k) on how they can help in reducing local landfill burdens. We developed several key complimentary partnerships in the community, such as Heston Action Group, Cranford Community College, C- Change West London, St. Leonards’s Church, Hounslow Council and Mayor of London circular economy partners ReLondon and local businesses, e.g. London Bike Hub, Back In the Saddle Bikes, Mohan’s Caterers, Avanti Pizza, Olio. Letter of Recommendation from Joana Lima, Project Manager of Heston In The Loop, London Borough of Hounslow, citing the pivotal role of the Repair Cafe in meeting the main objectives of low waste community. We aim to continue advocate and provide the repair and reuse over replacement further in the community.
The total amount of emoluments paid to 4 directors in respect of qualifying services was £1,800. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed
