Over the past year, Mercia Boxing Cub, a local community boxing club, has delivered significant social impact through both physical activity provision and wider community engagement. A major milestone has been the successful raising of £750,000 to renovate a previously derelict community building, transforming it into a safe, inclusive, and accessible hub for local residents. This space now serves not only as the home of our boxing club but also as a shared community asset used by a wide range of local groups. The building is regularly utilised by a local church organisation that supports numerous vulnerable groups within the community. Their work includes providing support for children experiencing mental health challenges, offering social opportunities and companionship for elderly and isolated residents, and delivering free sessions that include food and refreshments. This partnership has significantly expanded the reach and impact of services available within our community. In addition to providing a high-quality boxing facility, our club actively contributes to community wellbeing through a variety of initiatives. Over the past year, we have organised and delivered: A free school uniform drive to support families facing financial hardship Toy collection campaigns for children’s charities at Christmas Easter egg donations for the local food bank Ongoing collaboration with the church to provide free meals for local residents Our boxing programme itself remains central to our mission. Delivered by a dedicated team of volunteers, we offer inclusive sessions for all ages and abilities, promoting physical health, discipline, confidence, and positive social interaction. Through the combination of sport, community partnership, and targeted support initiatives, Mercia Boxing Club continues to play a vital role in strengthening community cohesion, reducing isolation, and improving the wellbeing of local residents. We are proud of the progress made and remain committed to expanding our impact in the years ahead.
We engaged with members, parents, coaches and local representatives through regular discussions and community engagements. Feedback supported the continued development and renovation of the club and facilities to improve long term community benefit.
One director received a salary for the role of Community Development Manager during the financial year. The position was funded for 12 months through grant funding received from Sport England.
