Company activities and impact

From the end of August 2024 to the end of August 2025 we organised a diverse range of literature and cultural events. In September, we were commissioned to join the event Back2Back, In Between - A Latinx takeover at the new V&A East, where we curated a programme of contemporary queer poetry recited by latinx poets living in London. In October we were invited to travel to Cagliari, Italy, for the queer Rainbow Literature Festival to join an event with Spanish author Nando Lopez. This trip marked the beginning of the Coalition of Queer Literature Festivals in Europe, which Romancero Books joined. For the LGBTQI History Month we organised the launch of a queer poetry book titled Hemisferio Cuir - An Anthology of Young Queer Latin American Poetry, in collaboration with fourteen poems publisher, poets Leo Boix and Tibiezas Dager and editor Ben Townley. In March we organised the launch of REMOTE, a book by artist Phil Douglas, published by Bona Varda and hosted at Second Home. The talk was chaired by Maxwell Zinkievich from the Bob Mizer Foundation. In April we organised two events to celebrate Sant Jordi International Book Day, one at Velorose Gallery and one in collaboration with the Ramon Llull Catalan Cultural Centre from London. In May, we joined the new THE BIG QUEER BOOK FAIR, taking part in the panel about booksellers of London. For PRIDE month we curated an event with the best-selling Spanish author Alana S. Portero, who came from Madrid for the launch of the paperback edition of her book Bad Habit, widely promoted in the UK by singer Dua Lipa. Our biggest event in terms of programming and impact was the IV Festival of Queer Spanish Literature in London, founded by the Spanish Embassy in London, ACE - PICE (the equivalent to the Spanish Arts Council), and the Cervantes Institute. We hosted 8 live events and 2 online events, and the festival gathered 900 attendees for our activities. This edition received strong press coverage. Attitude Magazine published an article about it, as well as La Vanguardia, the most important newspaper in Catalunya, Spain. We hosted 10 book club sessions at Battersea Spanish: a centre for learning Spanish and enjoying Latin dances, films and other cultural events. The festival as well as our other activities creates community and allows people to meet, get together and find spaces to discuss literature, queer Spanish and Latin culture and it is a platform to share other realities and cultures in London. Our impact is strong in the community, our newsletter grows after each event and we are asked to join forces with more charities, community groups and associations to promote Spanish and Latin American literature and culture in London.

Consultation with stakeholders

We held consultation meetings with the Spanish Embassy cultural team, the Cervantes director and cultural manager, and the Literature director from ACE-PICE (the Spanish Arts Council equivalent) to discuss the programme for the IV Festival of Queer Literature in Spanish in London. After each event programmed at the festival, we shared a feedback form that we use to programme the future editions. For our book clubs we always have an open call with the curator Juan Toledo who runs the club and the actively participating members. The final list of books to read reflected the result voted democratically by all the members. For the Cervantes book club, half of the books were selected by the librarian and the other half by Jorge Garriz - Romancero Books' director.

Directors' remuneration

The total amount paid or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £1,485. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
