During the financial year, Ukrainian Saturday School Of Herts C.I.C. continued to provide educational, cultural, and community support activities for Ukrainian families living in Hertfordshire and surrounding areas. The company’s activities benefit people who live and work in Hertfordshire, as well as those visiting the area, by promoting inclusion, wellbeing, cultural preservation, and community engagement. The primary aim of the organisation is to support Ukrainian children affected by the war in Ukraine by helping them maintain their native language, history, traditions, and cultural identity while adapting to life in the United Kingdom. The school also plays an important role in supporting the mental health and emotional wellbeing of displaced Ukrainian children and families by providing a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where they can communicate in their native language and remain connected to their heritage. Many Ukrainian children currently continue their Ukrainian education online alongside attending British schools. Due to significant differences between the Ukrainian and UK educational systems, children and parents often face considerable educational and emotional pressure. Ukrainian Saturday School Of Herts helps bridge this gap by providing structured in-person learning, cultural activities, and peer support. In addition to educational activities, the organisation continued to strengthen community cohesion by bringing together Ukrainian families, volunteers, and local residents through cultural celebrations, workshops, and social events. These activities help reduce isolation, encourage integration, and create opportunities for families to build supportive social connections. Also, we opened in Ukrainian Saturday School Of Herts C.I.C Teen Club, where teenagers can play table games, communicate with classmates after classes. During this financial year, the organisation also expanded its wellbeing and physical activity programme by introducing free sports activities for students and families. Children had the opportunity to participate in a five-week water sports programme at Lee Valley White Water Centre, where they experienced five different types of water-based activities. This initiative aimed to improve children’s physical wellbeing, confidence, teamwork skills, and mental health while giving many participants access to activities they would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience. The organisation remains committed to supporting the Ukrainian community in Hertfordshire through education, wellbeing initiatives, cultural preservation, and inclusive community engagement activities.
The company regularly engages with key stakeholders, including Ukrainian children and families, teachers, volunteers, local partners, and grant providers. Feedback is gathered through informal discussions, meetings, and surveys with parents, students, and staff. As a result of stakeholder feedback, the organisation introduced additional wellbeing-focused activities, including art therapy, mental health support sessions for teenagers, and extra educational support for children balancing both UK and Ukrainian curriculums. Feedback also highlighted the importance of social connection, which led to increased community events and group activities for Ukrainian families in Hertfordshire.
Full details of directors’ remuneration are provided in the company’s accounts under the section ‘Detailed Income Statement – Directors’ Remuneration’, where the total amount recorded is £5 652.
