Discussions: Discussion have taken place with members working in organisations such as ‘Sheffield African Caribbean Mental Health Association’ (SACMHA), SUBUD African women’s Health Group and The Brunch Club situated close to the city centre to discuss opportunities for running a variety of sessions, these include English classes for Speakers of Other Languages (E.S.O.L) Meetings: Directors held several meetings regarding the set up of ‘Building On Ambitions Together’ (B.O.A.T), these include:- Banking, Insurance, Policies and letters received from HMRC. Attended online meetings for mentorship, completed online DBS training, and had discussions with grant seekers. Directors will continue to meet regularly to discuss updates and next steps. COMMUNITY ORGANISATION GATHERINGS Attended Community Renewal and Engagement Work (C.R.E.W) meetings. The BOAT collaborated with other organisations to develop activities to support children around the city. Attended brunch meetings and partook in events to find out the interest of elderly Caribbean citizens. TUTORING – Academic Support Key Stage (KS) 1/ 2 (5 –11):- This services was requested from parents who required help and support, to reinforce and improve subject areas not understood during mainstream school lessons with a view of improving their academic results. KS 3 / 4 (12-15):- GCSE SUPPORT Offering support to pupils struggling with academic subjects e.g. English, Mathematics and Science in an effort to improve their confidence and grades. Support has been available through private 1 to 1 tutoring, enabling pupils achieve higher GCSE results. NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING (NLP) Coaching techniques for parents and pupils to manage personal barriers to navigate manipulating behaviours. Helping individuals recognise the signs and signals of negative thought patterns or behaviours to manage their mental well-being by using simple methods such as having open discussions, walks around local area or just spending time to listen. INTERVENTION WORK Supporting parents of excluded or expelled children through appeals processes. Offering advice for both parent and child of the next steps. Giving valuable help to understand the process, along with support and guidance through appeals processes resulting in the individual being able to continue with their education whilst attending mainstream school.
