    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Revenue recognition Turnover comprises the fair value of the consideration received or receivable for the sale of goods and provision of services in the ordinary course of the company’s activities. Turnover is shown net of sales/value added tax, returns, rebates and discounts. The company recognises revenue when: The amount of revenue can be reliably measured; it is probable that future economic benefits will flow to the entity; and specific criteria have been met for each of the company's activities.

    Other accounting policies

Summary of significant accounting policies and key accounting estimates The principal accounting policies applied in the preparation of these financial statements are set out below. These policies have been consistently applied to all the years presented, unless otherwise stated. Statement of compliance These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Financial Reporting Standard 102 Section 1A smaller entities - 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006 (as applicable to companies subject to the small companies' regime). Basis of preparation These financial statements have been prepared using the historical cost convention except that as disclosed in the accounting policies certain items are shown at fair value. The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the entity. Monetary amounts in these financial statements are rounded to the nearest £. Judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty The preparation of the financial statements requires management to make judgements, estimates and assumptions that affect the amounts reported. These estimates and judgements are continually reviewed and are based on experience and other factors, including expectations of future events that are believed to be reasonable under the circumstances. Actual results may differ from these estimates. Financial instruments A financial asset or a financial liability is recognised only when the company becomes a party to the contractual provisions of the instrument. Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at the transaction price. Financial assets that are measured at cost or amortised cost are reviewed for objective evidence of impairment at the end of each reporting date. If there is objective evidence of impairment, an impairment loss is recognised in profit or loss immediately. Any reversals of impairment are recognised in profit or loss immediately, to the extent that the reversal does not result in a carrying amount of the financial asset that exceeds what the carrying amount would have been had the impairment not previously been recognised.

Company activities and impact

THIS YEAR, MAY 2024 TO MAY 2025, HAS BEEN HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL WITH THE UNEXPECTED CONTRACT WE WERE ABLE TO TENDER FOR. THE MONEY CAME FROM MULTIPLY, A LEVELLING UP FUND FROM THE UK GOVERNMENT AND MANAGED BY DGC. THIS HAS FUNDED THREE LARGE PROJECTS - A ROLLING PROGRAMME OF BRANCHING OUT, OUR PRESENCE AT THE AMAZING SUMMER ROADSHOW AND STAY AND PLAY - JUST ADD PLAY. WE ARE THE ONLY MULTIPLY PROJECT, IN SCOTLAND (POSSIBLY THE UK) THAT INVOLVES OUTDOOR LEARNING SO WE ARE REALLY BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS AS TO WHAT OUTDOOR LEARNING CAN DELIVER. THANKS TO OWL SCOTLAND FUNDING WE WERE ABLE TO PRINT OUT ENOUGH OF OUR BOOKLETS TO GIVE TO EVERY SCHOOL AND NURSERY IN D&G. EACH OF THE 187 SETTINGS WERE GIVEN 5 OF THE MATHS BOOKLETS AND 7 OF THE LITERACY BOOKLETS. THESE ARE TO BE USED AS A LIBRARY, LENDING THEM TO PARENTS AND STAFF TO DO THE ACTIVITIES WITH THE CHILDREN, AND WE HAVE SEEN THEM BEING USED IN MANY OF THE NURSERIES AND SCHOOLS ACROSS THE REGION. MULTIPLY OUR MAJOR PROJECT SPANNING 2024/2025 FINISHED AT THE END OF MARCH 2025. MULTIPLY; A UK GOVERNMENT LEVELING-UP PROGRAMME TO INCREASE CONFIDENCE IN MATHS IN ADULTS. DGOWL WAS CONTRACTED BY DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY COUNCIL TO DELIVER OUTDOOR MATHS THROUGH: ATTENDING THE AMAZING SUMMER ROADSHOWS PUT ON BY DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY COUNCIL AT 80 VENUES ACROSS DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY. DEVELOPING AND DELIVERING STAY AND PLAY SESSIONS FOR ‘PARENTS OF EARLY YEARS CHILDREN’. RESULTING IN SESSIONS AT 137 VENUES ATTENDED BY 2,043 PARENTS, 4,371 CHILDREN AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF OUR ‘JUST ADD PLAY’ TINS AS A LEGACY ELEMENT OF THIS PROJECT. INCREASING CONFIDENCE AND INTEREST IN MATHS IN ‘HARD TO REACH GROUPS’ THROUGH OUR BRANCHING OUT (WITH ADDED MATHS) ROLLING PROGRAMME IN 3 LOCATIONS FROM SEPTEMBER 2024 TO MARCH 2025 INCREASING CONFIDENCE AND INTEREST IN MATHS IN ‘HARD TO REACH GROUPS’ THROUGH SHOWCASING ELEMENTS OF OUR ‘JUST ADD PLAY’ SESSIONS AND RESOURCES WITH DG COLLEGE STUDENTS (DUMFRIES AND STRANRAER) WHO THEMSELVES WOULD BE WORKING WITH EARLY YEARS CHILDREN. ONE OF OUR JUST ADD PLAY SESSIONS WAS CHOSEN TO BE FILMED FOR EDUCATION SCOTLAND’S STEM SHOWCASE OPEN DAY 2025.

Consultation with stakeholders

OUR MEMBERS HAVE ATTENDED MEMBERS MEETINGS AND THE AGM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR OCTOBER 24, DECEMBER 24 AND MARCH 25. WE LAUNCHED OUR NEW ELECTRONIC MEMBERSHIP FORM ON MAY 2025 AND TO UPDATE OUR MEMBERSHIP AND THROUGH THIS WE HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFULLY MAKING SURE THAT PEOPLE WANTED TO REMAIN MEMBERS OR ADDING NEW ONES AND ASKING THEIR OPINIONS TO HELP RANK OUR PRIORITIES. STAY AND PLAY - JUST ADD PLAY AFTER MANY MEETINGS WITH PAT RILEY AND OTHER COUNCIL STAFF E.G. JENNA DEVLIN, DAVID MAXWELL AND KAREN CREIGHTON WE DECIDED TO DELIVER OUTDOOR MATHS 'STAY AND PLAY SESSIONS' FOR ALL INTERESTED NURSERIES AND SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT D&G. PARENTS AND CARERS RECOGNISE ‘STAY AND PLAY’ AND STAY TO SEE WHAT THEIR CHILDREN ARE INVOLVED IN. IT WAS VERY IMPORTANT WE INVOLVED THE ADULTS AS THAT IS WHAT THIS FUNDING IS FOR. THERE HAS BEEN SOME AMAZING FEEDBACK THROUGH THIS PROJECT ALLOWING US TO ACKNOWLEDGE HOW WE CAN MOVE OUTDOOR LEARNING FORWARD IN THE REGION. BRANCHING OUT - WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE CONTINUED SUPPORT FROM OUR STEERING GROUP - CHRIS TOPPING (DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE PARTNERSHIP), NATHALIE MORIARTY (SCOTTISH FORESTRY) AS WELL AS COLLEAGUES IN OTHER HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE GROUPS AND SERVICES HAVE PROVED INVALUABLE IN OUR ABILITY TO CONTINUE TO DELIVER THIS FANTASTIC PROJECT AND CONNECT WITH A WIDE RANGE OF PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY. DGC’S CHIEF EXEC, COUNCILLORS AND WARD OFFICERS CAME ALONG ON THE 6TH OF MARCH 2025 TO VISIT OUR PROJECT AND TALK TO PARTICIPANTS ETC. WE WILL BE SHOWCASING THE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ASPECTS OF THE PROJECT AS WELL AS SOME OUTDOOR MATHS AS THE EVENT IS ALL ABOUT WHO THE COUNCIL HAS SUPPORTED.
