Our team members from the special needs and disabled community have continued to enjoy a full range of outdoor rural activities to support their physical and mental well- being whilst being involved in the day to day running of the small holding. They have learnt skills related to: - Green woodworking including working including making stools and dead hedging posts on the shave horse, pole lathing candle sticks and processing coppiced trees - Harvesting and weaving receptacles from home grown willow - Farm animal care including routine jobs related to the sheep, goats, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs and ponies - Routine maintenance of the fences and smallholding buildings - Maintaining wild habitat and footpaths - Growing organic vegetables and inviting the local community to come along and pick their own - Team working - Developing peer relationships They have also facilitated events supporting our local community and collaborated with other organisations for example: - Organising a community litter picks - Demonstrating at Living Crafts at Hatfield House - Collaborating with local colleges - Organising and running a local dog show in aid of local charities - Collaborating with other organisations that support the wellbeing of adults with Nuro diversity and mental health - Shown the local community around the smallholding on open days Whilst undertaking the activity listed our team members are continually encouraged to work together and build relationships with other team members and the local community to enhance their social networks. Our service is designed to offer ‘choices’ to our clients so they are able to develop new skills alongside taking part in activities that may be new. We revise, develop and maintain bespoke routines for our team members to ensure everyone is able to partake fully, both at the smallholding and in the community. These can include developing set daily routines, the use of picture and cue cards alongside verbal communication or Makaton, making adapted tools to accommodate individuals’ physical needs and agreeing different start and finish times where needed. Our annual customer survey shows this continues to be the right approach for our clients and supports them to succeed in their goals and achieve their aspirations. The local community are part of our stakeholder group. We interact with neighbours on a weekly basis. We have a group of volunteers who play an active role in the activities we undertake, and have feedback how being part of our team has assisted their mental health and self-esteem. Our volunteers have also provided different enrichment activities such as music sessions, storytelling, and spinning and weaving which the community value and attend. We encourage visits from local children, who can come along and learn about the animals and nature, whilst being shown around by our clients.
The company’s key stakeholders are: - Our clients (team members), their careers and guardians - Local Community - Neighbouring County Councils - Neighbours to the smallholding - Local Colleges - Other projects who support adults with Nuro diversity - Friend society of the local park We have strong relationships with our team members and their careers/guardians/families. We encourage open conversation about the service we provide. This helps us to understand everyone’s specific needs and what they value about our service. We continue to have high rates of customer satisfaction, and more individuals have chosen to become part of our weekly teams We have strong links with our local community, however attendance at our events this year have not been as strong as they were in the past. With this in mind we will be reviewing our events schedule and talking to our stakeholder groups about how we can improve our community offering. We continue to strive to reduce our impact on the environment. We continue to use a local feed and animal forage suppliers to help reduce our animal food miles, and support local shops and cafes where ever possible. We have open relationships with local County Councils and provide a safe space for our team members to work in collaboration with their allocated support service professionals. We collaborate with other settings to ensure our team members have access to the variety of provisions offered in the community. This makes sure our team members have choice in their daily activities to enable to them to have a rounded support package that meets their personal needs.
