The company has been created to primarily develop a performance and commissioning circuit which researches and celebrates the western seaboard of Wales and that of the South-East of Ireland by inviting composers and writers to respond to life on the edge of the Irish Sea, life on it and life underneath it. By commissioning works relevant to ‘the place’ there is a natural interest for locals and visitors, which deepens their knowledge and enhances community interest, pride and deepens their sense of belonging.
For one of the choirs we work with, Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion they chose their preferred composer with the resultant piece being inspired by the mythology relating to the Irish Sea. A further commission to feature the great organ in St. Davids Cathedral, ‘Between the Sea and the Stars’, piano and string quartet featured professional musicians from both sides of the Irish Sea including the organist from Christ Church Cathedral, Waterford. There have been exchanges between north Pembrokeshire and County Wexford since time immemorial and we are active in re-igniting ancient pilgrimage routes on both sides of the water. We stage an annual concert during school hours in the local secondary school, Ysgol Bro Gwaun in which they are joined by the Danescastle Music Group from County Wexford – the ultimate aim for there to be a twinning. All the feeder schools to YBG are invited, as well as members of the public an dis presented as a free concert. Additional concerts and engagements in church services took place in Fishguard, Wexford town, Carrig on Bannow in County Wexford and Waterford City.
