Black Sheep Events have held 6 street markets in this financial year. As well as local attendees, these markets have attracted visitors from a wide area bringing new visitors to the town. These visitors have had a positive financial impact on the existing high street businesses in Shepton Mallet. Where possible we select stallholders and entertainers from within the local area, supporting those in our communtiy. We have also provided free entertainment including educational demonstrations for children. We provide affordable stalls for community groups and young traders to showcase their activities and products. We have volunteering opportunites at each market, including skills and learning opportunities in the areas of event management, sound and lighting. We have collaborated with local businesses and community organisations to promote their activites including, the Art Bank, Parish Church, Shepton Artists, SMArt, Harmony Within, Buy the Amulet, Bar 501 and Pulse Studios.
In May 2025 we carried out a consultation with the high street businesses in the town, in the form of a questionnaire. 16 businesses responded. A few issues were reported by the businesses, volume of music playing, visiblility of infrastructure eg, bins and fist aid points. These issues were taken on board; we have people on site to manage the music volume and have increased the number of bins and signposting to important areas
