Company activities and impact

Northants & Rutland Open Studios (NROS) is a not for profit community arts organisation dedicated to making art accessible, inclusive, and engaging for both artists and the wider public across Northamptonshire and Rutland. Over the past 15 months, NROS has delivered a wide range of projects, exhibitions, workshops, and public events that have directly benefited local communities, supported artists at all stages of their careers, and encouraged wider participation in arts and culture. During this period, NROS has continued to provide affordable and accessible opportunities for artists to exhibit and promote their work through large scale visual arts festivals, central exhibitions, popup galleries, networking events, workshops, mentoring, and professional development resources. These initiatives have supported emerging, hobbyist, and professional artists alike, helping to reduce barriers to participation and encouraging creative confidence, wellbeing, and community connection. The annual Open Studios Festival and associated exhibitions have welcomed thousands of visitors into studios, galleries, museums, churches, cafes, and community venues, encouraging residents and visitors to engage with local creativity in an informal and welcoming environment. By bringing art directly into communities and encouraging conversations between artists and the public, NROS has helped increase cultural participation, tourism, social connection, and appreciation of the arts across the region. NROS has also delivered educational support for artists through guidance documents, workshops, and resources covering areas such as exhibiting, pricing artwork, photography, framing, social media, marketing, and artist development. These resources help artists build sustainable creative practices, improve professional skills, and gain confidence in presenting and selling their work. A key focus of NROS is community wellbeing and inclusion. The organisation actively promotes the mental health and social benefits of creativity and provides a supportive network where artists and members of the public can connect, collaborate, and feel part of a wider creative community. NROS believes that art should be accessible to everyone regardless of age, background, ability, or experience, and works to ensure opportunities are open and welcoming to all. Through its activities over the past 15 months, NROS has strengthened the local creative economy, supported independent artists and venues, increased access to arts and heritage experiences, and contributed positively to the cultural life and wellbeing of communities across Northamptonshire and Rutland.
