Notes to the Financial Statements

for the Period Ended 31 August 2025

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services. Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods have transferred to the buyer. Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulative depreciation and any accumulative impairment losses. Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets, other than freehold land, at rates calculated to write off the cost, less estimated residual value, of each asset evenly over its expected useful life, as follows: Office equipment over 5 years

    Other accounting policies

Debtors Short term debtors are measured at transaction price (which is usually the invoice price), less any impairment losses for bad and doubtful debts. Loans and other financial assets are initially recognised at transaction price including any transaction costs and subsequently measured at amortised cost determined using the effective interest method, less any impairment losses for bad and doubtful debts. Creditors Short term creditors are measured at transaction price (which is usually the invoice price). Loans and other financial liabilities are initially recognised at transaction price net of any transaction costs and subsequently measured at amortised cost determined using the effective interest method.

Company activities and impact

R City Youth CIC delivered a range of programmes to local youth and community providers targeting young people living in the Ardoyne and Shankill areas. Services provided included facilitations, group work sessions, mentoring support and training support. During this period, we worked with young people that are deemed “at risk”, not in education, training or employment and young people on a cross community basis. In total, we delivered programmes to over 400 young people across the financial year.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s direct stakeholders are young people aged 11-25 living in the Ardoyne and Shankill areas of North Belfast as well as residents living in these areas as secondary beneficiaries. We have consulted with young people through all our programme delivery to identify needs and issues that affect their quality of life and all programmes delivered are reflective of this stakeholder consultation process. During this financial year, over 150 young people responded to a survey exercise to identify their needs, need within the community and how they feel R City Youth CIC should priorities its work.
