Company activities and impact

During the financial period from 1 January 2025 to 5 April 2026, Thread & Butter Collective CIC benefited the community of Mossley and surrounding areas in the following ways: Subsidised Community Workshops: We utilised 2,620 pounds in donations and small grants to deliver low-cost and free creative textile workshops, enabling local residents to learn new skills, reduce social isolation, and improve mental wellbeing. Arts and Heritage Engagement: We promoted local textile heritage and environmental awareness through sustainable craft practices, keeping traditional textile skills active in the community. Accessible Local Hub: We established and fitted out a dedicated creative community space at Unit 5D, Woodend Mill One, investing in fixtures, fittings, and IT equipment to ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-equipped environment for participants. Volunteer Support and Development: We provided structured training and engagement opportunities for volunteers, empowering local people to help facilitate sessions, build confidence, and gain valuable community organisation experience. Inclusion and Wellbeing: We targeted activities toward individuals experiencing social or economic barriers, providing a vital social anchor and supportive network through collective making.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's stakeholders are our community workshop participants, local volunteers, and community residents in Mossley. We consult with our stakeholders regularly through informal feedback sessions at the end of creative workshops, digital surveys, and open community discussions at our space in Woodend Mill. In response to this feedback, the company has expanded its range of craft sessions, adjusted scheduling to ensure maximum accessibility for residents experiencing barriers, and invested in specific fixtures and equipment to improve the comfort and safety of our workshop hub. Furthermore, we expanded our outreach by holding creative sessions out in the community at locations including The Monday Club and Sewcial Sewers, alongside delivering materials directly to groups so they can participate in collective projects independently or through their existing clubs. To actively raise awareness and invite wider stakeholder participation, our team regularly speaks and shares literature at local public gatherings, including deploying six representatives to the Whit Friday event at Mossley AFC. We also engage in continuous dialogue with local council representatives and ward councillors to align our provisions with local authority social strategies. Additionally, following direct consultation regarding site safety, we successfully collaborated to achieve the procurement and installation of a public-access automated external defibrillator (AED) on-site at Woodend Mill to benefit all tenant businesses and visitors.
