The Crafty Cook CIC was set up to promote healthy eating through the delivery of food preparation and cooking courses for communities throughout Devon. The sessions have covered a variety of topics, from basic cooking skills, community cook and eat events, cost of living roadshows, food waste reduction events, food budgeting and batch cooking workshops. These have benefited a range of communities primarily within the Exeter and Teignbridge areas though work has been undertaken in East, Mid and West Devon. We have worked in conjunction with Teign CVS, Devon Social Services, Devon County Council - Recycle Devon, THAT Food Bank, Devon Community Foundation and Love Food CIC and through these we have supported young adults with global delay on their road to greater independent living by helping with their basic knife skills and hob control; low income groups looking to save money through menu planning and batch cooking; promoted community cohesion for individuals with anxiety and social isolation.
Our stakeholders are all communities within Devon. We regularly consult with these through social media and networking events, such as the cost of living events run over the winter, the feedback from this, and from questionnaires completed after each session, feeds into the future sessions to be run by The Crafty Cook CIC. An example of this is the introduction of the food budgeting and batch cooking workshop - this was requested following the feedback received at the cost of living events.
