Responsible Tourism is the principle of identifying what you can take responsibility for to create a sustainable future and to make places better to live in and visit. Responsible tourism practitioners deliver change by explaining what, why, and how they will take responsibility together with what they will do to measure their impact. ICRT global supports changemakers in tourism and hospitality by sharing best practice in Responsible Tourism. ICRT global does this through: Training and education - In the financial year ICRT global launched and ran two training courses for people across the hospitality and tourism sector including a Professional Certificate in Responsible Tourism and a Professional Certificate in Rebalancing Tourism. These are priced at an affordable rate to make training accessible around the world. Attendees including participants from Africa, Asia, Europe, Caribbean, UK and USA. Acting as a hub of expertise, ICRT global acts as the hub of an independent network of like-minded experts in Responsible Tourism around the world. It provides professionals with support, advice and connects experts around the world. It is free to become part of the network. In 2024/25 the ICRT network included: ICRT South America, ICRT West Africa, ICRT Southern Africa, ICRT Finland, ICRT Sri Lanka, ICRT India, ICRT Southeast Asia ICRT Balkans new for 2025 ICRT Europe new for 2025 Sharing best practice- ICRT global shares best practice in Responsible Tourism with lectures, events, online webinars and a global Responsible Tourism Awards programme. All events are free to attend and the awards programme is also free to enter in order to encourage the widest possible range of applications from around the world. There were six Responsible Tourism Awards in the financial year including: ICRT LATA Responsible Tourism Awards Latin America ICRT WTM Africa Responsible Tourism Awards, ICRT Indian Subcontinent Responsible Tourism Awards ICRT Southeast Asia Responsible Tourism Awards ICRT Europe Awards new for 2025 ICRT Global Responsible Tourism Awards
ICRT global students - students are surveyed on completion of courses and have provided a 4.8 star satisfaction score (out of 5) ICRT Network - ICRT global consults regularly with ICRT Network members on both an individual and collective basis; supporting their individual activities by speaking at regional events, and promoting workshops and conferences. ICRT global also consults with the ICRT network and partners on the Responsible Awards criteria and topics for the year ahead and supports all regional awards processes run by ICRTs. Two ICRT network members also sit on the ICRT global board. ICRT Special Advisors – ICRT global formed a Special Advisory group of industry professionals and academics from around the world. Special Advisors are consulted formally every six months and are also consulted with on an individual basis to provide guidance. The special advisors include : Julie Cheetham, CEO of Travalyst, Professor Xavier Font, Sustainability Marketing at Surrey University Sarah Habsburg Lothringen, hospitality training and consultancy Carol Hay, Chief Tourism Officer, McKenzie Gayle Limited Richard Hearn, Founder Grass Routes and former Chair of the Association of Independent Tour Operators Dilys Roe Principal Researcher and Team Leader (biodiversity) Natural Resources the Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) and Chair of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Sustainable Use and Livelihoods Specialist Group John Swarbrooke author and former Professor of Tourism at the University of Portsmouth and Director of the Centre for International Tourism Research at Sheffield Hallam University Professor Hiram Ting, Director of Responsible Borneo (Reborn), Chairman of the Sarawak Research Society and founder of ICRT Southeast Asia Professor Willy Legrand, Sustainable Business Tourism and Hospitality Management at the IU International University of Applied Sciences in Germany. ICRT Partners – ICRT global’s work is made accessible and affordable through the support of sponsoring partners who are consulted with regularly. In this financial year for example easyJet holidays became a founding partner and supported the creation of the online training courses, the launch ICRT Global summit and the sponsorship of the new ICRT Europe Awards.
