This was an exciting year for Relic with a focus on our education and outreach work based in North Wales. We engaged with 1,810 people, who collectively made 640 products with Relic using 100 percent recycled plastic. This year we introduced an Education and Outreach Officer with thanks to part funding from Menter Mon, which has significantly increased our capacity to engage with the community. With this role in place, we’ve been able to organise and develop more educational workshops, site visits, and creative learning activities that have benefited a wide range of people locally. We’ve built relationships with local education establishments and organisations, developed new partnerships, and begun to grow a wider awareness and visibility of Relic in our new location in North Wales. Through our outreach, we’ve strengthened public understanding of the kerbside recycling system in Wales and increased awareness of the circular economy and its importance. As part of our outreach work this year we have - Offered bilingual presentations and interactive workshops to Primary and Secondary schools in Gwynedd and Anglesey, including Ysgol Pentreuchaf, Ysgol Bro Plenydd, Ysgol Eifionydd in Porthmadog, Ysgol Gynradd Amlwch, among others. - Made workshops accessible for individuals and groups with additional needs. We visited students at Ysgol Hafod lon, and spent half a day at Warws Werdd with individuals from Antur Waunfawr. - Delivered a hands-on session for young people supported by GISDA in Pwllheli. - Attended community events, fairs, and public engagement days such as Hongian Ffest, Sioe Dyffryn Ogwen, She Climbs at Plas y Brenin, to raise awareness of Relic and the circular economy. - Engaged with over 900 members of the public for a full week at the National Eisteddfod in Wrexham, offering the opportunity to shred and reform plastic from our stall. - Co-coordinated a Beach Clean Week involving four different schools across three beaches in Gwynedd and Ynys Mon, alongside Menter Mon as part of their -Mis cylchol-. - Collaborated with Snowdonia Gear Repair and Partneriaeth Ogwen, on a creative -Buttons Workshop- focused on reuse and repair. - Launched a mini murmuration project with Tanio Bermo, inviting Barmouth residents to mould recycled plastic birds for a collaborative installation. - Developed and delivered a Christmas decoration workshop for 40 pupils from Ysgol Rhosneigr, supported by a community drop in evening at Yr Orsaf, Penygroes to test some new festive moulds. - Delivered an online drop in lecture for Lancaster University business students Meet an Eco Innovator, sharing insights from our eco innovation journey. Since October, we have been using the TrydaNi electric community car to travel to and from our Education and Outreach events. This aligns well with our organisational values and has been practical too, offering more space and supporting our sustainability goals. In our shared building run by Partneriaeth Ogwen, we’ve also built a community where people share lunches and get to know each other in a welcoming environment. Through our manufacturing activities we have recycled over 700kg of plastic through partnerships with organisations such as Allday Goods, Gamenook, Enterprise Vision Awards, The Bay International Film Festival, Lancaster University, various schools, University of West of England, Masham Methodist Church, Public Materials and other partners we cannot publicly name. We have helped many small businesses or individuals get started on their journey using 100 percent recycled plastic made in our solar powered foundry. Throughout the year we have supported other Precious Plastic workspaces such as Mull, Sustainable Design Studio, Revive Innovations, Neston High School, EcoTribo, Are You MAD, Plastic Shed and Birnbeck Regeneration Trust supplying them with plastic material, equipment or technical advice. We have also helped other companies advising them of plastic recyclability, types and how they might set up a similar recycling workspace to deal with their own waste material.
Local Citizens Since our move last year we have been connecting with our new local citizens through our outreach events such as the National Eisteddfod and Hongian Ffest. This has been highly beneficial being new to the area and was a great way to hear from a wide demographic of local people and their thoughts and knowledge of recycling in North Wales. We have had regular dialog with local schools, universities and Ffiws spaces, where we have gained valuable insight into their needs, agendas and challenges. This has enabled us to look at ways we can fill a gap through sharing our knowledge and giving them hands on learning experiences. Following each event we’ve asked teachers and organisers to fill in a short questionnaire with any feedback and or suggestions on what they’d like to see us offer in our workshops. Local businesses and organisations We have initiated conversations with several local businesses and organisations to understand our shared priorities, identify areas of overlap, and explore potential collaborative projects. Initial discussions have highlighted a strong appetite for joint action, shared resources, and community led environmental initiatives. In response, we are actively exploring ways to coordinate efforts and develop partnerships that will increase our collective impact. Some of these include: Partneriaeth Ogwen, Menter Mon, Pontio, DMM, Crest, Antur Waunfawr, Caergylchu (Cyngor Gwynedd) Snowdonia Gear Repair, Trash Free Trails and Xplore. Customers and Partnerships We are in regular conversation with B2B customers regarding the products and services we offer. We are constantly improving the quality and workflow of the products we make based on customer feedback. B2C sales have reduced due to a focus on B2B and relocation so we have had less consultation with individuals regarding this. We have also unfortunately left behind a number of partnerships due to relocation. International Precious Plastic community The wider Precious Plastic community is generally consulted informally through different channels such as social media, email and messages. The majority of consultation and actions surround the machinery we use and techniques, better enabling the ability to recycle plastic effectively across the globe.
