STEP FORWARD WITH LEWIS CIC

Directors' report period ended 30 April 2026

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 30 April 2026

Principal activities of the company

In the last year, Step Forward With Lewis CIC has provided free strength and balance classes in Northampton and Northamptonshire to those who have issues with mobility and flexibility, and who are at risk of falls. We have also provided specialist classes for those with cancer and Parkinson’s. We have put on six general strength and balance classes per week for the past five months for older people who are at risk of falls, or who are more vulnerable - including those with Parkinson’s, heart conditions, dementia, cancer and other serious conditions. These classes work to improve people's fitness, strength, balance, flexibility and confidence. Michelle Lewis is a qualified instructor, who can teach later life fitness and help people to remain independent for longer.

Additional information

Details of consultation with stakeholders: As of 30 April 2026, Step Forward With Lewis CIC had five directors, two of whom (Michelle and Craig Lewis) have been active for the whole year. The other three (Samantha Gee, Carole Cuthbertson and Christine Monk) joined the organisation as it continued to grow. We operate in a continual state of consultation with all of our directors, and also hold regular meetings to discuss all matters pertaining to the CIC. Company activities and impact

These classes improve people's fitness, strength, balance, flexibility and confidence. Michelle Lewis is a qualified instructor, who can teach later life fitness and help people remain independent for longer. Clinic trials have proven that the Otago programme, which Michelle is trained in, leads to a reduction in the number of falls suffered by those taking part in classes, with the severity of falls suffered also reduced. As well as having a positive impact on those attending sessions, our work helps ease pressure on the NHS as people are having less falls and attending their GP/A&E less often. We believe in building community, encouraging clients to come for a coffee or tea after sessions, facilitating friendships, and we even saw two members get married!
