Intangible assets
Intangible assets are stated at cost less accumulated amortisation and accumulated impairment losses.
Development costs are capitalised as an intangible fixed asset when the following criteria are met:
• it is technically feasible to complete the asset so that it will be available for use;
• management intends to complete the asset and use or sell it;
• there is an ability to use or sell the asset;
• it can be demonstrated how the asset will generate probable future economic benefits;
• adequate technical, financial and other resources to complete the development and to use or sell the asset are available; and
• the expenditure attributable to the asset during its development can be reliably measured.
Other development expenditures that do not meet these criteria are recognised as an expense as incurred. Development costs previously recognised as an expense are not recognised as an asset in a subsequent period.
Where the company's development of a software, websites or similar applications expect to generate future revenues in excess of the costs of developing, and the above mentioned capitalisation criteria are met, the development expenditure on such an asset is capitalised and treated as an intangible fixed asset. Once the recognised intangible fixed asset is available for use it is then amortised over its useful economic life, as per the company's amortisation policy. Expenditure incurred on maintaining these websites or software, and expenditure incurred on developing websites used only for advertising and promotional purposes are written off as incurred.
Development costs that are capitalised in accordance with the requirements of FRS 102 are not treated, for dividend purposes, as a realised loss.
Amortisation
Amortisation is provided on intangible assets, except those under development which are not yet available for use, so as to write off the cost, less any estimated residual value, over their useful life as follows:
|
Asset class |
Amortisation method and rate |
|
Software and website |
Straight-line over 3 years |
Cash and cash equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents comprise cash on hand and call deposits, and other short-term highly liquid investments that are readily convertible to a known amount of cash and are subject to an insignificant risk of change in value.
Trade creditors
Trade creditors are obligations to pay for goods or services that have been acquired in the ordinary course of business from suppliers. Accounts payable are classified as current liabilities if the company does not have an unconditional right, at the end of the reporting period, to defer settlement of the creditor for at least twelve months after the reporting date. If there is an unconditional right to defer settlement for at least twelve months after the reporting date, they are presented as non-current liabilities.
Trade creditors are recognised initially at the transaction price and subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method.

Share capital
Ordinary shares are classified as equity. Equity instruments are measured at the fair value of the cash or other resources received or receivable, net of the direct costs of issuing the equity instruments. If payment is deferred and the time value of money is material, the initial measurement is on a present value basis.
