Revenue recognition
Turnover includes the sale of goods and services net of VAT and discounts together with membership subscriptions and sundry income. Turnover for the sale of goods and services is measured at the fair value of the consideration received. Membership subscriptions are recognised on a straight-line basis over the membership period.
Government grants
Grants relating to capital expenditure are credited to deferred income and released to the profit and loss account over the expected useful life of the assets. Revenue grants are released to the profit and loss account as the related expenditure is incurred.

Notes to the Financial Statements for the Year Ended 30 September 2025
Tangible assets
Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost less accumulated depreciation. Cost includes any incidental costs of acquisition. Fixed assets are depreciated at rates calculated to reduce them to residual value at the end of their expected normal lives on a straight line basis.
At the reporting date, the directors review the carrying value of tangible fixed assets. If circumstances arise which may indicate a reduction in the recoverable value, a review is conducted to estimate the extent of any impairment.
Depreciation
Depreciation is charged so as to write off the cost of assets, other than land and properties under construction over their estimated useful lives, as follows:
|
Asset class |
Depreciation method and rate |
|
Land and buildings |
2% straight line basis |
|
Fixtures and fittings |
10% straight line basis |
|
Plant and equipment |
10% straight line basis |
Stocks
Stock is valued on a first in first out basis at the lower of cost or net realisable value after making due allowance for obsolete and items.
Short-term debtors and creditors
Debtors and creditors with no stated interest rate and receivable or payable within one year are recorded at transaction price. Any losses arising from impairment are recognised in the profit and loss account in operating expenses.
Key sources of estimation uncertainty
Estimates and judgments made in the process of preparing the financial statements are continually evaluated and are based on historical experience and other factors, including expectations of future events that are believed to be reasonable under the circumstances. The Directors do not consider that there are any critical judgments made in applying the Company’s accounting policies or that there are any critical accounting estimates or assumptions which may have a significant risk of causing a material adjustment to carrying amounts of assets and liabilities within the next financial year..
