Company activities and impact

First Year At A Glance CineRPG was initially created by Matt Gras (CEO, Co-founder) and Cara Bamford (Director, Co-Founder) because of the desertification of cinemas, game stores, social game spaces, and 3rd spaces in Bristol after the Covid-19 pandemic. CineRPG CIC is operated as volunteer-led non-profit organisation with mission to help address loneliness and reduce social isolation via the use of affordable events inspired by fandom culture in selected areas. Starting this journey with a ‘community service first’ approach we quickly understood the necessity to secure funding to continue offering low-cost event opportunities, and decided to position CineRPG CIC as a non-profit education organisation for the UK screen sector, reinvesting profit towards the delivery community events in Bristol and the South West area - a necessary decision to prevent reliance on volatile grants and sponsorship. As such, the first year of CineRPG CIC was dedicated to find a balance between B2B contract opportunities and community support. We have invested efforts to establish the organisation at the heart of the South West curating sector, social gaming landscape, and community-led organisations using emergent creative technologies - exploring both partnership and collaboration opportunities aligned with our cause. Using the four intersectional pillars defining our scope of actions for social inclusion (i.e Film, Games, Community, Innovation) we have explored and devised a variety of community-focused actions and low-cost initiatives to help address loneliness and social isolation. These first 12 months of activities were mostly considered R&D, whilst developing our knowledge around the requirements of CIC operations, nurturing our community locally and online, developing suitable commercial offerings, as well as to become an active member of local networks. Our scope of activities are subject to an assessment process where 2 (or more) of these 4 pillars have to be core to our proposals - giving CineRPG CIC opportunities to grow in intersectional spaces, and for community members to connect across a wide range of interest - all connected by the desire to share their passion for Fandom across different genres, IPs and event formats. Key Milestones April 2024: Early creation of CineRPG May 2024: Local Outreach 22 September 2024: Watch & Play: Dungeons and Dragons (Launch Event) October 2024: Beyond Boundaries 360 (Film Hub South West) October to December 2024: Organisation Outreach, B2B proposals, and Film Advocacy January to March 2024: Loneliness Awareness Week, CoStar Ideate, All Set West (part 1) April to July 2024: Loneliness Awareness Week, CoStar Ideate, All Set West (part 2) August 2025 to January 2026: Hiatus

Consultation with stakeholders

Our main stakeholders are the residents of Bristol and the wider region affected by loneliness and social isolation - more specifically residents from areas where screening and socio-cultural activities have declined (South Bristol) since the Covid Era. This includes individuals who attended our events, joined our training sessions, and who are part of our online community hub on Discord. We run an annual community wish list to enquire members preference for our next activities, discuss choice of films for the Watch Along! programming on Discord, offer the opportunity to run games online, and offer a free selection of tabletops to play during our Friends and Adventures sessions. Matt and Cara engage on daily basis about the direction and strategic decision-making of the organisation. In addition, we have reached the CIC regulator with specific questions, had 1-2-1 consultancy advice with Civil Society Consulting CIC, and contacted Boost Digital for mentoring guidance. CINEMA FOR ALL - A contract agreement stipulated the terms and requirements of the ‘Launch’ initiative, and access to grant. Report and evidence about our launch screening was provided to the organisation. CineRPG CIC remains an active member of Cinema For All and has elected the charity as our asset-lock organisation. FILM HUB SOUTH WEST - We engage regularly with the team and members of the hub, stay up to date with funding opportunities, audience engagement advice, and best practices. ALL SET WEST - Consultation with stakeholder was performed on weekly basis as part of the training contract delivery. Quality control towards our research, content, and facilitation delivery was performed in preparation and at the end of every training module. A satisfaction survey was issued to the participants for each milestone of the course, ensuring we met expectations and achieved learning outcomes. COSTAR IDEATE - A contract agreement stipulated the terms and requirements of the Ideate initiative, access to expenses support money, and long-term support towards the initiative. The IP developed as part of the programme (VPAP) remains ours entirely.
