During this financial year, Montol CIC successfully organised and delivered the annual Montol Festival in Penzance, celebrating Cornish midwinter customs and the winter solstice. The primary benefit to the community was the promotion of local heritage, cultural education, and community cohesion. To achieve this, the CIC provided free, open-access public events on December 21st, including traditional processions, music, and community performances. We also ran a series of affordable or free community workshops in the weeks leading up to the festival. In these workshops, local residents of all ages and backgrounds were taught traditional lantern-making, costume creation, and mock-mayor customs. By keeping the core festival events entirely free and held in public spaces, we ensured that financial barriers did not prevent anyone in the local community from participating. The festival brought thousands of residents and visitors into the town center, fostering a deep sense of civic pride, reducing social isolation during the winter months, and providing a significant economic boost to local independent businesses and hospitality venues in Penzance.
